"The 2016 Royal Rumble is less than three weeks away, but so far there are only 10 WWE superstars who were announced as participants. Several surprise entrants and big names are rumored to be planned for the 30-Man Battle Royal, making it one of the most anticipated Royal Rumble events in history.

The Road to WrestleMania took a huge hit on Wednesday with the news of John Cena's shoulder surgery and missing the biggest event of the year. According to PWInsider, all the current plans for WrestleMania 32 are "out the window," but now is the perfect time to elevate new stars via the Royal Rumble considering main event talents like Seth Rollins and Randy Orton are also out with injuries.

Mr. McMahon announced on Monday Night RAW that Roman Reigns will be defending his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against 29 other superstars in the Rumble, per WWE.com. Reigns is currently joined in the Rumble by Big Show, Chris Jericho, Curtis Axel, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, and Braun Strowman.
Inquisitr noted that this year's Royal Rumble just got more interesting with the WWE title on the line. WWE should fill it up with more big names and several surprise entrants to create a buzz that will get a lot of people talking.

The first names to come up in the rumor mill are New Japan Pro Wrestling stars A.J. Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura, who are the two biggest names in wrestling not in the WWE. They have reportedly signed huge contracts with the company and will likely debuting on the main roster with a possibility of entering the Rumble.

Styles just finished up his contract with NJPW while Nakamura will be working a few more dates before moving to the United States. NJPW stars and "Bullet Club" members Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows are also heading to the WWE and could also be surprise entrants.

What Culture also suggested a few big names that could be making a surprise return or debut in the Rumble including Daniel Bryan, Sami Zayn, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar and Triple H. Bryan's health is still unclear, but a surprise return will surely make the crowd explode.

Zayn, Balor, and Joe are all ready for the main roster and what better way to make their debut in the Royal Rumble. The Undertaker appears to be in great condition and his WrestleMania 32 feud can be set up in this event while Brock Lesnar and Triple H are surely participating considering they have unfinished business with the current WWE champion."

As far as NXT names go, I can definitely see Joe, Corbin or Zayn showing up. Maybe even Finn.

AJ is possible, don't think it'd be smart to debut him in a losing situation though.
If NXT does another pre-Rumble tourney Corbin would probably win, so that's a probability.

If they wanna get out of this they gotta play some major cards, I mean stack it to hell with the craziest surprised entrances and some hardcore stuff in the Royal Rumble, no entries can we wasted (except for number 3 where I predict Bo Dallas to have and get eliminated right there when he gets in), they need Daniel Bryan, they need Lesnar, they need The Rock, they need Undertaker, they need Owens to run hot, they need to get this AJ Styles deal down, they gotta get Zayn in there, Joe, some huge shockers, Triple H too? Of course, they need to make this crazy if they want these ratings back.

They would likely start a feud for him in the rumble. Think about it.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. There will probably be like 1 NXT guy who will make a surprise entrant and 1 old ass legend who isn't even really on the roster that will show up and hit a couple finishing moves and then get eliminated.

If Taker or Daniel Bryan were competing I think they would advertise it heavily

How 'bout Ric Flair lol. This is the first Rumble for the championship since the one he won for the title in '92, so maybe he wants to see if lightning can strike twice. He runs in and gets tossed out almost immediately. (I know WWE won't allow him to get involved in almost any physicality anymore, but they could keep it really short and sweet.)

I'd love to see Scott Hall finally make a nostalgic Rumble appearance, although ironically, it would in fact be his first-ever actual appearance in the Rumble match itself (he was always involved in championship matches on the Rumble card during his run with the company from 92-96 and was never in the actual match itself.)

Cart out Roman's deathly obese brother for some family tension.

Seriously, how's Rosey doing nowadays?

While I would enjoy watching Karl Anderson, Luke/Doc Gallows, Shinsuke Nakamura, and/or AJ Styles making WWE debuts in the Rumble, the only one of those guys who has a real shot at any kind of big pop from an American crowd outside of Chicago or New York is AJ, particularly considering the Rumble's in Florida. An AJ arrival in WWE in the Rumble and being eliminating a Kevin Owens or an Alberto Del Rio (particularly assuming ADR is still US Champion) would be a great feud set-up for the RtWM. I can see him, for example, eliminating Del Rio and ADR helping someone else eliminate him or pulling down the rope so he goes over it or some other heelish deal, setting up AJ-ADR for the US title at Fastlane with their rematch at Mania. Just a thought.

As for the NXT guys, I gotta agree with the folks who say Baron Corbin (even though I'm not personally a fan of the guy) making an appearance would make a ton of sense. I also think Samoa Joe making his main roster debut in the Rumble would be amazing (not to mention him getting a good pop from an Orlando crowd).

Sami would be another good choice, but I don't know that they wouldn't want him to stay in NXT to work for a bit longer, although I can easily see some sort of set-up for a Mania match between Sami and Owens with Sami getting the duke at the blow-off match.
