WWE is saddened to learn of the death of WWE Hall of Famer “Sensationalâ€￾ Sherri. She was 49.

In the early 1980s, Sherri began her career in the AWA. In 1985, she defeated Candi Devine to become the AWA Women’s Champion. Their rivalry lasted more than a year with the championship trading hands on several occasions.

It was during this time that she began perfecting her skills as a manager, leading “Playboyâ€￾ Buddy Rose and “Pretty Boyâ€￾ Doug Somers to the AWA Tag Team Championship. On June 28, 1986, Martel would win the AWA Women’s Championship for a third and final time from Candi Devine.

On July 24, 1987, “Sensationalâ€￾ Sherri debuted in WWE, pinning her trainer and mentor the Fabulous Moolah to become Women’s Champion. Sherri defended the gold against Debbie Combs, Velvet McIntyre, and Desiree Peterson.

She quickly earned the reputation as someone who would do anything to win, even if it meant using unsavory tactics. Her rivalry with Moolah continued as they became the captains for the first-ever female Survivor Series teams in 1989. Sherri held the championship for 15 months before losing to Rockin’ Robin.

In the early ‘90s WWE phased out the Women’s Division, leaving Sherri to focus on managing the male wrestlers. Her first client was “Macho Manâ€￾ Randy Savage. It was during this time that she became “Sensation Queen.â€￾

The couple had rivals with Miss Elizabeth, Hulk Hogan, Dusty Rhodes and Sapphire. In 1991, “The Million Dollar Manâ€￾ Ted DiBiase enlisted her services. After that relationship dissolved, she took on the managerial duties of Shawn Michaels.

In 1994, Sherri appeared in WCW as “Sensuousâ€￾ Sherri managing Ric Flair during his rivalries with Sting and Hulk Hogan. After separating from Flair, she became “Sisterâ€￾ Sherri guiding Harlem Heat to seven WCW Tag Team Championships.

Sherri was enshrined in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2006. “Million Dollar Manâ€￾ Ted DiBiase was her presenter.

This has been a bad year for wrestling, so many have passed away this year. Not to mention Jeff Jarrett's wife died from cancer...RIP Sherri

Yet another death in the wrestling business... My condolences to her family.

Edit: So, now Raw will probably open with a memorandum of Sherri, meanwhile, on the show, they'll just go on about the 'death' of Mr. McMahon.

Irony...

I'm really shocked. I heard of her p[assing this morning from Marty Jannetty.

Her WWE Hall of fame speech was one of ,if not the most real & eloquent I've ever heard. Genuinely shocked at her untimley passing.

A great woman,great performer & most definite a trure innovator & legend..

Any one notice who collects WWE classic figures?
The current series had Sherri who's passed as the series hit shelves.
Last series included Bad News Brown & The Big Cat Himself,Ernie Ladd & both men passed also as that series was released?

Wow that sucks.

Funny cuz I was just watching the video where she came out with Kurt Angle, where Angle imitated Michaels and put Sherri in the Ankle Lock.

Anyways, thats too bad. Sad to hear.

So many wrestlers passing away.

WOW !!!!

That's very shocking. I like Sherri, I thought she was cool in her time. I seen her on TV, couple of times. She looks good, besides I like her retro looks.

RIP Sherri

I was wondering that with this 'Death Storyline', what would happen if someone actually does pass away. It's disrespectful ain't it?

Can't Believe She's Gone.

RIP Sherri :(

Because its not the WWE's fault that she died during the middle of a death angle.
