by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Mar 14, 2012 at 9:20 am ET

Three-time UFC veteran Sean McCorkle (16-2) headlines this month's inaugural Worldwide Mixed Martial Arts (WMMA) event.

WMMA officials recently announced that McCorkle meets fellow super heavyweight Brian Heden (17-10) in the main event of the March 31 event, which takes place at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.

Featuring a host of notables, including Thomas Denny vs. Karo Parisyan, Lyle Beerbohm vs. Derrick Noble and Drew Fickett vs. Kevin Knabjian, among others, the main card of "WMMA 1: McCorkle vs. Heden" airs on pay-per-view and the Armed Forces Network.

"We are excited to offer this event through major pay-per-view partners and the Armed Forces Network," WMMA president William McFarlane stated. "Giving our fans the ability to view this landmark event while supporting Wounded Warriors is central to what WMMA is all about. With several former and active duty military on the fight card, we are extremely excited that AFN will broadcast our event live to over 175 military installations worldwide. We would like to thank each of our broadcast partners and look forward to continuing to provide world class programming to their viewers."

McCorkle is best known for a three-fight stint in the UFC. He came to the promotion as an undefeated heavyweight and earned a submission win over Mark Hunt at 2010's UFC 119 event. However, he then dropped back-to-back fights to Christian Morecraft and Stefan Struve and was released by the promotion.

McCorkle has since earned six-straight first-round submission wins on the regional circuit, including a Bellator 60 victory over Richard White.

Meanwhile, Heden has been fighting professionally since 2005. After opening his career at just 1-4, Heden has put together a respectable career mark while facing a host of notables, including Tyler East, Josh Hendricks, Ron "Abongo" Humphrey, Carmelo Marrero, Sherman Pendergarst, Brett Rogers and Dan Severn. However, Heden is just 1-3 in his past four fights.
