- A good sign on how WWE officials feel about NXT star Sami Zayn is how he was used to close last week’s live event in Montreal, his hometown.

Earlier in the night, Zayn lost to NXT Champion Adrian Neville but got a huge pop and “ole!” chants. Zayn was allowed to cut a promo about Montreal and while he lost the match, Neville was booed the whole time. The big moment came when WWE had him run out after the main event. There was a big brawl where heels attacked babyfaces until Sami ran out and helped clear the ring. The show ended with his theme song playing and the crowd chanting “ole!”

Sami closing an event in his hometown is seen as a big deal. The former El Generico reportedly has a big supporter in WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson.

If Pat has your back, pretty sure he will go places.

Zayn has grown on me the past few months so if they have long term plans for him when he gets called up then I'm all for it.

Never thought he'd be anything other than Generico tbh, but he's a great fucking underdog.

El Generico was a stupid gimmick and I'm glad he ditched it. Should've done it along time ago, probably would've been hired alot earlier.

Now without the mask and goofy shit, he can sell better, and he can actually talk.

The guy is neither here nor there to me and I just can't see him making a splash on the main roster either. He's gonna have to hope that the casuals latch onto the OLE chant that a bunch of guys will be doing whenever he's around.

He can sell properly, not that Ziggler. fish out of water sellbotchery either. He will be fine as a babyface, probably get over with the kids and shut the smarks up for atleast a month...maybe two.

If a Babyface can sell and make people believe he is getting beat up, they go far. Have a good or better comeback, and you have a star. It's not rocket science.

Was awesome IMO, one of the few bright spots on the Indys. Haven't bothered to watch any of his WWE shit because lolwwe.

Should be fun to watch him on the main roster when they let him.

I don't know, thinkin' ahead maybe with Survivor Series comin' up he'd make for a great babyface beatdown in a traditional 5 on 5 match.

With Rey Rey on the way out, WWE needs a new "ultimate underdog" and Sami is that guy. Also like the way he's portrayed in NXT as having immense world renowned skills but just can't win the big one. I could easily see the fans connecting with him quick. Everyone loves a good underdog story.

I think Kalisto is going to be the new underdog in a year or so but Sami wouldn't be a bad choice for that role. He's done a good job with it so far

People will probably see this is a bad comparison but I just see him ending up like a Kofi type guy tbh, all smiley and bouncey slapping the kiddies hands but he will have the vocal support from his indy days.

Who the fuck remembers Kofi's Indy days? Zayn has an established fan base and in this new WWE he'll be given the chance to take over the audience and make himself a main eventer. However, I still think Kofi turnin' heel and bein' forced by the fans to turn face again would make him a much bigger star.
