Ryan Seacrest renews 'American Idol' deal
Seacrest … in!
The American Idol host has renewed his deal with Fox for two more years. As expected, Ryan Seacrest has re-signed with the hit reality competition series. One report estimated that Seacrest will earn $15 million per year. While Idol on-air talent have come and gone, only Seacrest and judge Randy Jackson have been on the show since the beginning.
“Ryan is one of a kind,†said Mike Darnell, president of alternative at Fox. “His ability to engage the viewers, keep the contestants at ease during intense moments and adapt to any situation, especially during the live shows, solidifies him as the absolute best in the business.â€
The deal wraps up one high-profile negotiation for Seacrest, who has also been haggling for months with Comcast. In that agreement, Seacrest is expected to have an expanded presence on the NBC’s Today show, maintain a heavy presence on E! and have an overall production deal. One part of the expected arrangement — Seacrest participating in the company’s Summer Olympics coverage — was announced earlier this month.
