Two notable light heavyweights will clash in a summer showdown.

Former UFC champion Lyoto Machida (17-3 MMA, 9-3 UFC) and onetime-surging contender Ryan Bader (14-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) have agreed to meet on the network-televised UFC on FOX 4 fight card.

UFC officials today passed along news of the fight from the Brazilian outlet esporte.ig.com.br.

UFC on FOX 4 takes place Aug. 4 at Los Angeles' Staples Center. In addition to the FOX-televised main card, FUEL TV is expected to carry the prelims. Machida vs. Bader is expected to be part of the main card.

As
MMAjunkie.comfirst reported
on Sunday, UFC on FOX 4 also will feature middleweights Brian Stann (12-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) vs. Hector Lombard (31-2-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

Since opening his career with a 16-0 mark and winning the UFC light-heavyweight title, Machida has dropped three of his past four fights. The Japanese-Brazilian karate specialist most recently fought in December, when he failed in an effort to reclaim his title. At UFC 140, new champ Jon Jones score a technical-submission victory over Machida, which followed "Dragon's" earlier defeats to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Bader, who won "The Ultimate Fighter 8," surged into title contention after winning his first five UFC fights. He then suffered back-to-back losses to Jones and Tito Ortiz (in a major upset) to derail his title hopes. Recently, though, the NCAA Division I wrestling standout has gotten back on track with a knockout win over Jason Brilz at UFC 139 and a unanimous-decision victory over Jackson at UFC 144. A win over Machida could get him right back in the thick of the title hunt.

UFC On FOX 4 is turning into an impressive free card. This fight plus, Lombard vs. Stann.

I'm thinking this Machida-Bader fight is going to main event though.

I honestly can't think of a more boring fight at 205 than this.

Maybe Bader/Davis, but this is really bad....

Well yeah, but we're also getting Lombard/Stann which will be a great stand up battle.

Yeah bader/Davis would be a real snoozer. At least with Machida there is a chance of a KO. But Machida? On a Fox card? Has to be main event.

UFC Is apparently having Stann and Lombard headline the show. I agree with that decision, if the news is legit.

How can a Stann fight headline over a Machida fight? That doesn't seem right.

I don't think it's so much Stann as it is Lombard, they're treating him as HUGE deal to UFC. Which i think he is, and i think they know that these two will go out there put on a war for the crowd. While Machida/Bader will (likely) go out and wrestle each other for 3 rounds.

It's just a rumor, and who knows i mean the show is still awhile away. I'm okay with seeing either one of these fights headline the show honestly. But they really want to push Lombard as the next big thing in the MW division.

I like all four fighters, Machida is one of my favorites at 205. Ryan Bader is pretty awesome, especially after beating Rampage. Brian Stann is a beast and I've been marking for Lombard since i first watched him in Bellator. I also think it's crazy, but Lombard has had two fights in PRIDE as well. Unfortunately they make up for the two loses on his MMA record
