Following Ryan Bader's less than exciting win over Rafael Cavalcante at UFC 174, the numbers officially came in, and while impressive.. it also spoke to me in other volumes. And although I was not the biggest fan of Bader to begin with, this even further proves my point.
Ryan Bader put on a bathroom break of a fight when he defeated Rafael Cavalcante doing what most fighters with his skill set do - pushing him against the fence taking him down and using weak ground and pound to grind out a unanimous decision victory. What shocked me most about the victory was the post fight statistics.. as of that fight, Ryan Bader has absorbed a significant strike of 1.5 per every minute he's spent inside the octagon. Sounds impressive right? Even more so, his striking defense is 71.3% which supasses even fighters more elusive than him (such as Lyoto Machida, who Bader was knocked out by in 2012).
So if his striking defense is so impressive, anyone raise eyebrows at the fact that he's been knocked out twice? Judging by how his last fight went, it seems to me like Darth Bader's a little gun shy.
