UFC 141 did big numbers on pay-per-view, according to an industry source.

Veteran reporter Dave Meltzer, who has a background in reporting on professional wrestling and has some links to pay-per-view companies as a result, often puts out numbers for UFC PPV sales and is generally considered to be accurate within around ten per cent either way.

He claims that UFC 141, which was headlined by Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, did somewhere between 750,000 and 810,000 units. That would make it one of the biggest sellers since UFC 100 - which topped one million sales - and marks a good start for the UFC’s year.

While the numbers will be pleasing to the UFC accountants, the event itself was tinged with sadness for them as Lesnar was demolished in the first round by Overeem and announced his retirement immediately afterwards.

As he was the biggest pay per view star the UFC had, he presence will be missed on 2012 cards if he does indeed stay retired and was not just talking in the heat of the moment. The UFC hopes Overeem can be turned into a big seller like Lesnar, but whether he can achieve the same numbers is debatable.
Crazy shit.

Great numbers considering Dana was essentially labeling this PPV as a lame duck

Yeah, it also really shows what Brock Lesnar did for the UFC, I assume the majority of people bought the show specifically to see his return.

Brock was always one that could bring in the numbers and major thanks has to go to how well he was promoted when he was in the WWE. UFC capitalized on it and they always managed some huge numbers. Overeem should be able to get some good numbers but he has to be promoted good. The guy can at least talk well.

Great buy rate and Lesnar draws great, many brought it for Brocks return and looking forward to a great match between him and Overeem which turned out crap. I'm glad I didn't pay $44.99.

Who's UFCs next top drawer? Dana White says Jon Jones.

Shows what a draw Lesnar was to get 800k buys on a show that didn't have a very strong card and that had a hype show that got 15,000 viewers. Should make for a nice paypacket for both Lesnar and Overeem. UFC post Lesnar needs to find their next big draw and it may be Overeem or someone like Jones.

Yeah, Jones is definitely going to be their next big drawing fighter although i can't see anybody matching the numbers that Brock brought in every time he fought.
