Another day, another UFC injury.
Luiz Cane (12-4 MMA, 4-4 UFC), who was expected to make his middleweight debut at August's UFC 150 event, has been forced to withdraw from a planned matchup with Yushin Okami (26-7 MMA, 10-4 UFC), UFC officials today announced.
Stepping in for Cane is Brazilian submission ace Rousimar Palhares (14-3 MMA 7-3 UFC).
Featuring a lightweight title fight between current champ Benson Henderson and former title holder, "UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II" takes place Aug. 11 at Denver's Pepsi Center.
The evening's main card, which is expected to feature the new Palhares vs. Okami fight, airs on pay-per-view.
Palhares looks to rebound from a disappointing loss to Alan Belcher at May's UFC on FOX 3 event. "Toquinho" saw a three-fight win streak snapped when Belcher shucked off Palhares' signature leglock attacks and earned a first-round TKO in impressive ground-and-pound fashion.
Meanwhile, Okami looks to snap a two-fight win streak after dropping back-to-back outings against Tim Boetsch and Anderson Silva. While Okami was never a threat in the title fight with Silva, he was leading comfortably on the cards over Boetsch when "The Barbarian" launched a furious third-round come-from-behind assault.
Another Injury which really sucks, but a very good replacement in Palhares. Much better fight in terms of ranking fighters at 185.
