Because it is not part of the main story trilogies. It is a stand alone.

Between all the movies in the new trilogy that Abrams is helming there will be a stand alone film-spinoff done by a different director.

In case it wasn't clear. This movie focuses on the Rogue one spy team, which stole the plans for the original death star. Setting up the events for a new hope.

The next stand alone is Han Solo's origin story.

I can't help but mark for Star Wars, even a Jar Jar spin off would work.

I, for one, love how Star Wars isn't more important than Rogue One.

This is the first film that actually puts us in the original trilogy, it's not a prequel and it's not a new story. And that's why it has me more excited than VII ever could.

I for one, am looking forward to how they are going to present the force in this one. Because at this point in the timeline, all Jedi bar Yoda and Kenobi are dead, and those two are off playing in a swamp and a desert respectively. And the only two active force users are Darth Vader and Sidius. Which has been established do not fuck about.

There's no force user on the good guys side to even things out. Just a bunch of rebels with blasters.

One lightsaber will be one too many imo. I don't want any Jedi, or sith, or anything to do with the force at all.
