Roger Narvaez replaces Barroso, meets Cummins at UFC Fight Night 42
UFC newcomer Roger Narvaez (6-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has replaced Francimar Barroso (16-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and now meets light heavyweight Patrick Cummins (4-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 42.
MMAjunkie first reported that Barroso had dropped off the card. Cummins and Narvaez subsequently confirmed the switch following an initial report from TXMMA.com.
UFC Fight Night 42 takes place June 7 at Tingley Coliseum, in Albuquerque, N.M. Aside from Cummins vs. Narvaez, which kicks off the event and streams on UFC Fight Pass, the entire card airs on FOX Sports 1.
Cummins made a short-notice and much-heralded UFC debut in February against his onetime wrestling training partner, Daniel Cormier, in the co-main event of UFC 170 in Las Vegas. Despite plenty of heat before the fight, Cummins, a massive underdog, was shut down by Cormier in just 79 seconds. That was his first MMA loss after starting his career with four first-round stoppages, including a win for Strikeforce in his pro debut.
Narvaez, who had been preparing for a June 14 headliner and middleweight title fight against William “Bubba†Bush at Legacy FC 31, instead will head to the big show with five stoppages in six wins since his pro debut in 2011. Most recently, the 30-year-old fought at Legacy FC 23 in September, when he earned a split-decision victory over Hayward Charles (9-4 at the time).
