fightline.com said:Robbie Peralta isn't blaming anyone for his failed UFC on FUEL TV 9 drug test. The featherweight tested positive for marijuana metabolites and was handed a six month suspension. He must undergo drug rehabilitation classes and pass a drug test before he can return.
"I just want to apologize to all my friends, family, fans and to the UFC for what I did," said Peralta to Sherdog. "I'm going to have to suffer the consequences, but the main thing is that I apologize to all the people I let down- my coaches, my team."
Following the passing of his grandmother in March, Peralta felt vulnerable and after a few drinks was smoking.
"I regretted it the next day, but I'm not here to make excuses for myself," said Peralta. "I did what I did."
Akira Corassani took the decision win on the card. No other fighters were popped for a failed drug test.
Peralta has promised that it won't happen again as he doesn't want to jeopardize his career.
I don't understand why the UFC is making him go through all this trouble for weed. Yes, clearly it is an illegal substance and shouldn't be used. However, I think the punishment of drug rehabilitation is a little harsh.
UFC fighters can't suspend the fighters it they are to report drug use (Matt Riddle said his marijuana use was medicinal) and failed to report it twice. It seems like since Nick Diaz (who also possesses a green card for ADHD) popped for weed it's been happening a lot more since than and it's all over their failure to report it. Fighters have been excused for using Adherohl for ADHD and TRT for low testosterone and certainly marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug. This is one thing I have a serious issue with from both parties. Both the UFC's punishments and the fighters failure to report their use.
