Opening Segment – Batista, Legacy
We start off with Batista making his first entrance as champion, real big pop, crowd going nuts. Batista gets in the ring with the mic, and starts talking about how he beat the hell out of Randy Orton at Extreme rules for everyone who was sick of Orton, and for Ric Flair. Randy comes out looking intense, makes his way to the ring, and Batista is ready to fight. Priceless jumps Dave from behind with a chair. He eventually starts fighting them off and gets Randy up for the Batista Bomb. Cody comes to the rescue and Legacy starts attacking Dave’s arm (to play up the surgery tomorrow?). Orton puts Batista’s arm in a chair and stomps it ruthlessly over and over again, all the while Batista yelling about how this isn’t over. Then, with his arm still in the chair, and Priceless holding him down, Orton uses a sick armbar and uses the ropes to help force Batista’s arm to “snap†and break. Orton grabs the belt and holds it in the air, and then Legacy leaves Batista in the ring, Orton carrying the belt with him. We go to commercial, Batista is being carried to a stretcher, and ambulance. When they’re loading him in, all he’s saying is that he wants his title. They show the replay of the attack.
Segment Rating: ***
Pretty decent way to put Batista out, rather than saying he hurt it in the cage; it makes his win a little less pointless kayfabe-wise. The attack was awesome and pretty methodical (and edgy), which is how these guys are and should be portrayed.
Match – Kofi Kingston vs. William Regal
Winner: Kofi Kingston
Regal makes his entrance saying how in these difficult and trying times, we don’t need a Jamaican as US Champion. The start off with a couple good exchanges, Kofi tries an attack from the top rope, but Regal counters with a punch to the midsection and beats down Kofi for a while. The match gets a little more physical with strikes and eventually Kofi hits the Trouble In Paradise. 3-count.
Match Rating: **
Decent action in this match, somewhat entertaining from a fighting perspective. Really enjoyed seeing a more physical side from Kofi for a stretch, and he’s building real good momentum.
Backstage Segment – Legacy
Priceless are saying they broke Batista’s arm and there’s no way he’s coming back. Josh Matthews asks Randy about the attack, and Orton says people need to realize Batista is down and out, and that he’s invoking his rematch clause tonight, and Vickie agrees. If Batista doesn’t show, Orton wins the belt by forfeit.
Segment Rating: **
Decent way to bring the belt back to Orton by the looks of things, and a “unique†way to use the rematch clause.
WWE Divas Title Match – Kelly Kelly vs. Maryse
Winner: Maryse
Both Divas make their entrance, then Mickie James comes out and sits at the announce table with King & Cole. The match kicks off pretty boring. Mickie is talking about how she’s already defeated Maryse twice now. Maryse hits a brutal backbreaker on Kelly Kelly for a 2-count. Kelly mounts offense, and does a cross body from the ropes. Maryse kicks out. Eventually they start going back and forth until Maryse hits the DDT and pins Kelly. She continues beating her down after the match, but Mickie rushes into the ring and Maryse leaves.
Match Rating: *
Nothing spectacular yet again. These two showed flashes of brilliance early on in this “feud†but since then have just gone downhill completely.
Backstage Segment – Vickie Guerrero
Vickie is angry as hell (over the Hog Pen match) and tells Josh Matthews that Orton gets his title rematch tonight and reiterates the stipulations Orton specified earlier. Then she says she’s got an announcement later that will shake the foundation of Raw forever (another one of these!?).
Segment Rating: **
Pretty straight-forward with the announcement and no extra-curricular shit going on (aside from this groundbreaking announcement). Wonder what she’s got to say?
Backstage Segment – Miz & Maryse
Miz walks up and tells Maryse not to worry, Mickie isn’t around. Maryse says Mickie doesn’t worry her. She starts talking French and Miz tells her she’s hot when she does, and she says he’s a smooth talker. He starts saying how he’s not worried about Cena, and she says she’s never seen him beat Cena, and he won’t get a chance with her until he does. Miz says he’s awesome, and then walks away. Maryse has that “I can’t believe he’s more narcissistic than I am†look on her face again. She digs The Miz!
Segment Rating: **
She’s hot, Miz truly is AWESOME!, so anything these two are doing is cool. Miz is sticking to his form against Cena (thankfully) and they’re building up to a pretty good relationship if I must say so.
6-Man Tag Match – Santino, Goldust & Festus vs. Chavo Guerrero, The Brian Kendrick & Jamie Noble
Winner: Santino, Goldust & Festus
I actually didn’t pay much attention to this match. Saw a few decent back and forth’s, and a couple good moves, but nothing spectacular.
Match Rating: ???
Maybe someone else really paid attention, but I just can’t watch Chavo, Santino, or Festus anymore. The WWE should bring back the Misfits faction and throw all these guys in it, because they’re all pointless.
Match – John Cena vs. The Miz
Winner: No Contest
Miz comes out, takes the mic, and says it’s the night we’ve all been waiting for, as he goes one-on-one with Cena. He’s going on and on about Cena with some decent lines catching some nice heat. Eventually he quits and Cena comes out with a HUGE pop. The match is getting ready to start when Show comes out. He’s on the apron and Cena’s staring both men down. Miz rushes and Cena punches him, Miz falls out of the ring. Show gets in, Cena goes for the AA, but Show slips out and hits the Chokeslam. Then he locks in the submission move he’s been using. Cena is passing out when Miz starts pounding Show with a chair, backing him into the corner then dropping him on the ropes. He yells at Cena and then hits him with the chair and leaves with Show pissed off yelling.
“Match†Rating: **
I know I’m givin’ a lot of 2-stars here, but everything’s playing out pretty well for some seemingly dumb shit. I can’t fathom why they’re keeping Show in a feud with Cena other than to keep Cena away from the Main Event, but they could do that one-on-one with Miz. It’s getting pretty damn boring having Show involved, but they really gave Miz some credibility (even if it was with a chair) in beating down Show. I enjoyed this “match†for what it was.
Match – MVP vs. Matt Hardy
MVP comes out and grabs the mic and says he doesn’t know what the situation with the WWE title is, but that he needs to be in the match for it. He then says he’s going to beat Hardy tonight. Hardy comes out with his cast on still, and the match starts. MVP’s playing it somewhat technical while Hardy is using the ropes to choke MVP. MVP ends up hitting his overhead belly-to-belly toss, and then hits the Ballin’ Elbow. Goes for the Playa’s Boot in the corner, Hardy goes for the 10-punch, but MVP drops him on the turnbuckle and works on the cast. He hits the Playmaker and gets the pin.
Match Rating: **½
The action in the match was fairly decent. Pretty good display, these two know how to work together in the ring, never really a horrid display. MVP’s declaration for the Gold is interesting, and refreshing for the audience, keeping it in their minds that he’s focused on getting the main strap, and WWE seems intent on pushing him to that level.
Segment – Vickie Guerrero
She comes to the ring looking pissed off with MAJOR heat. She starts off with her “Excuse me! Excuse me!!!†and the crowd is really booing. She says she’s not about pleasing the fans and how humiliated she was by the Hog Pen match and being slopped. She says that she looked for sympathy, but everyone just laughed at her. She asks where the decency and respect of the fans is at, and gets even MORE heat. This is incredible how hated she is right now. She talks about Orton and Batista, and then says she’s tired of people making fun of her each week. Then she says she’s quitting as GM of Raw (WTF!?!?!?) and starts screaming “I QUIT!†and the crowd is popping big. Edge’s music hits. Edge takes the mic and says he said some disrespectful things to her at Extreme Rules and that he was coming out to apologize to her. She’s all excited, then he says “I was going to until you quit†and reveals how he used her power for the belt. She’s in denial of it all and starts crying and he begins to humiliate her even more. The crowd is actually giving Edge heat (so he’s still got more heat than Vickie, interesting) and that he wants the divorce. She starts screaming and crying, dropping to her knees, and he leaves the ring.
Segment Rating: ***½
Man, IDK what to think about this. Vickie has been the most successful GM in quite some time in regards to her relationship with the crowd. I was really enjoying her (away from the Santino shit) and thought she was going to really go down as one of the top GM’s in WWE history. At least Edge can finally sever his ties and hopefully reverts back to a more sadistic state.
Segment Interview – John Cena
They show the highlights from earlier and ask Cena how he’s feeling. He’s goes on this stupid rant about “feeling worse but can’t remember when†and how you find out what you’re made of with your back against the wall. He says Show’s still got a problem and they’re gonna settle it, and he calls Miz a coward in more words and says they’ll settle that face-to-face soon enough.
Segment Rating: *½
Decent I suppose, but still nothing incredible from Cena. He’s getting worse and worse as we go on. I don’t know what to think of him anymore. He’s still a natural on the mic, but you’ve got to let this guy loose and let him do what he does best!
Tag Team Match – Priceless vs. The Colons
Winner: Priceless
We find out that if Priceless wins, they get a shot at the Unified Tag Titles (not just one set thankfully). Good to see they’re being thrust into some kind of storyline for just the two of them. Go to commercial for the start of the match :/ and return and Priceless has control. Tag to Carlito who comes in hot. Eventually he’s back enough for Ted to hit him in the back of the head, then Cody capitalizes. Ted tags in and starts beating Carlito down, then kicks Primo off the apron. He tags Cody in as Primo tries to get revenge but the ref cuts him off and Priceless doubleteams Carlito. They cut the ring off and tag back and forth with some doubleteams. Eventually Primo gets in with a hot tag, he’s cleaning house, but Cody drops Carlito from the apron and Ted gets Primo with the Dream Street and the pin.
Match Rating: **½
Really enjoyed this match. Priceless got to display their tag team wisdom and really put on a great match. Glad to see ‘em in a storyline of their own like I said, and glad they got the win. Now we’re set up for a title match, and maybe even a feud if they lose, or at least they get the belts (and hopefully turn ‘em into the Million Dollar Belts *prays*).
WWE Championship Match – Randy Orton vs. Batista
Winner: No Contest?
Legacy are in the ring, Orton is talking about how Priceless are the #1 contenders and reminds people yet again of the stipulations for the match. Introductions, and Batista’s music hits, he doesn’t come out. Ref starts the 10 count; at 7 we see the ambulance on the Titantron. The ref stops the count (what the fuck is that about!?) and then we see the ambulance again. Triple H appears on the screen looking incredibly intense with a MAJOR pop. He’s charging through the back to the ring with his sledgehammer, and makes his entrance. Cody rushes him with a chair but Triple H hits him in the gut and drops him. Then does the same to Ted. Then he’s standing at ringside and drops the sledgehammer and rips off his shirt and gets in the ring. He and Orton start going at it, but Triple H gets the best of him with some furious, intense punching. They start fighting on the outside and Triple H is kicking Orton’s ass. He throws Orton over the barricade then charges but Orton punches him and grabs a chair. Triple H reverses and slams him on the ring then the announce table a few times. He tries to hit Orton with a monitor, but Orton kicks him in the gut then runs through the crowd. Triple H catches him and starts pounding on him more, then brings him back to ringside. Orton crawls into the ring with a chair, and Triple H stares on from outside. He decides to get in the ring anyways, dodges Orton’s chairshot with a brutal spinebuster. He grabs the chair and DESTROYS Orton’s head with it, then beats on his back a few times real strongly, uses it to jab his legs and then stands on his head and jams the chair into his neck. He prowls around Orton saying something to him, then looks at the crowd chanting “PEDIGREE!†and he sets the chair up. He grabs Orton (this shot you can see Priceless still on the ramp out cold
) and he Pedigrees Orton on the chair. He does a crotch chop and we end Raw.
“Match†Rating: ***
I personally hated the fact that they should have (but didn't) awarded Orton with the title prior to Triple H’s return (even with the ambulance). It would have made for an intense moment thinking it was Batista even if he was late, then spring Triple H on us and shock the hell out of us. Nevertheless, Triple H’s return was actually quite enjoyable. His energy and intensity was perfect and his attack was pretty badass. I still don’t think these two can have a good regular match, but I this brawl was pretty solid. Really enjoyed everything except for the fact that the ref stopped his count for no reason :/. Only reason it’s not 4 or more stars, to be honest.
Match of the Night: Priceless vs. The Colons
Real good match with a good buildup of something to expect in the future with the Tag Titles for once. Priceless getting their own focus is a plus.
Segment of the Night: Opening and Closing Segment
Both were solid and really built to the storyline, and actually brought some anticipation to the continuation rather than leave me feeling like “GOD WHEN WILL IT END!?†Really enjoyed the way they put Batista out (even though he’s still champ :/) and how they brought Triple H back.
Show Rating: ****
We’re spoiled on this rating because ratings have been inflated in recent weeks, but we did get a reasonably good show, with some very intriguing things going on. Big Show is pointless and stale to me, but Miz is a fresh balance. Vickie quitting was a HUGE shock to me, but they played it real well with Edge. Divas suck, but tag got some focus. And tonight (a week after we finally get some blood again) we finally got some chair tonight, first on Batista in a vicious attack, then Miz on Big Show, and then a CRAZY shot to Orton’s head by Triple H. Really loved seeing the chairs come into play for once in a long time. WWE is really bringing some edge back to Raw, which is making the show more enjoyable making up for some stale and bland storylines and brings another element to the show. Real good Raw for the fact that Batista is hurt and bringing Triple H back and nothing really lacked besides the Diva’s and Cena’s stupid promo. Definitely best Raw since the Draft.
