Rich Franklin hasn't fought since UFC 126, when Forrest Griffin outlasted him to take a decision victory. There was a potential UFC 133 bout with Antonio Rogerio Nogueira but after Nogueira suffered a shoulder injury that bout was pulled from the card.

Franklin suffered a torn labrum in grappling practice and is now expected to remain on the sidelines for quite some time. Via Fighters.com:

According to a press release from Franklin's representatives, "Ace" underwent surgery yesterday to repair the damage and things went successfully meaning the 37-year old is expected to make a full recovery. However, the rehabilitation process could take up to six months if not longer meaning Franklin won't be ready to fight again until after the midway point of 2012.

"I spoke with Rich, he's feeling great and as soon as the doctor gives him the go-ahead, he's ready to start training again," said manager JT Stewart. "If everything goes as expected, UFC fans could see (him) back in the Octagon in late summer."

Franklin turned 37 on the fifth of this month, so seeing him out for such a lengthy amount of time as his career is winding down is disappointing. Here's hoping that Rich comes back strong and closes out his career by putting on some performances he can be proud of.
