This is a thread about Rey Mysterio's run in 2006.

I think it was the worst booked run in the last 10 years. I mean, Rey Mysterio won the title as a compliment to Eddie Guerrero. Eddie Guerrero was the one who was probably booked to win the Rumble in 2006 and become a World Champion at WrestleMania. The plans changed with his death, but than they gave the ball to Mysterio. And boy did Rey drop it quickly.

I mean, he had this feuds with Randy Orton in which Eddie Guerrero was discussed as being in Hell. I never really understood this, since it was only few months away from Eddie's death. They disrespected the dead.

I honestly believe that Rey Mysterio shouldn't have won the title. I really honestly believe so. I think Kurt Angle should've won the title at WrestleMania.

Rey Mysterio didn't look believable to me as a World Heavyweight champion. He didn't do much of an impact, if you don't take that lame 'Underdog beats the Odds' stuff.

What do you guys think?

Can't say much, wasn't watching then. But replacements are normally not as good as the original one, at least on this case it wasn't.

I didnt watch that time but I know the story from Rumble to Wrestlemania. I think it is a good scenario. It is a bit tribute to Eddie's death. That was a good RTWM storyline for sure. Eddie being hell was not a serious thing, they didnt disrespect to him. WWE only disrespected Chris Benoit amongst their deceaseed wrestlers. Also Rey deserved it. He dedicated himself to wrestling, he deserved a run. He had a good run too. Underdog beating the odds is good if it doesnt continue much.

I had just went into one of my off-periods in wrestling right before this started, thankfully. Orton's "Eddie's in hell" silliness didn't bother me, but I hated seeing a guy that size win a world title, no matter how over he was. And the WWE clearly didn't think of him as much of a world champion either considering how weak he was booked once he had the belt. Lance Storm actually commented on his website that Mysterio should have won Least Pushed World Champion for 2006, because of the way they handled him. The World Heavyweight Title stretched out was taller than he was lol...

I enjoyed it from what I caught. Like during the build to his match with JBL, how Rey basically just got his ass handed to him week in and week out to some monster. Twas hilarious. He totally came off as a fluke of a champion, but if you're going to give Rey Mysterio the title I think that's the best/only way to go about it.
