Omigawa last saw action in Vancouver at UFC 131 where he loss a very controversial decision to Darren Elkins, despite Omigawa seemingly controlling the action and doing more damage over the course of three rounds. Jason Young, meanwhile, fought on the same card on short notice against Dustin Poirier, and put up a competitive fight despite dropping a decision. As a result the Brit has been rewarded with a full training camp and fight in front of his hometown British fans.
Scanlon vs. Head should prove to be a grappling battle, as Scanlon boasts five submission victories via a variety of chokes, armbars and leglocks, and holds a purple belt in Luta Livre under Marcelo Brigadeiro, who teaches the grappling art at Team Kaobon in Liverpool. Head, on the other hand, is a practitioner of more traditional Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and holds a purple belt himself, under BJJ phenom Rafael Lovato. Head will also be dropping down to 170 lbs for this fight after making his UFC debut at middleweight in a loss to Nick Ring.
