The perpetual welterweight challenger machine continues to churn out opponents for Georges St. Pierre to clean out.

Those of us hoping a win over Jake Shields would finally bring a superfight with Anderson Silva to fruition will have to wait just a little longer. Instead, it looks like GSP will fight Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz. MMA Weekly reports:

Nick Diaz is likely to face St-Pierre for his next UFC welterweight title defense in 2011, with all signs pointing towards a December showdown in Montreal.

Sources have indicated to MMAWeekly.com that a deal is imminent and the fight could be announced as early as next week. Like any potential deal, there is always the chance something could change at the 11th hour, but St-Pierre vs. Diaz is almost a certainty at this point.

This follows Mike Chiappetta's Twitter report that Diaz met with UFC President Dana White at the UFC offices on Thursday.

A bout with Georges St. Pierre would likely put to rest Diaz's foray into boxing against Jeff Lacy.

No word on whether St. Pierre and Diaz have been selected to participate as coaches for the Ultimate Fighter 14.
