When a WWE superstar goes on a lengthy losing streak, it’s usually a sign that something bigger is going on behind the scenes, or in other words, that the superstar’s got himself a ton of backstage heat.

There is the rare occurrence, however, when a superstar finds himself de-pushed for a different reason. He isn’t in the doghouse, but rather, he keeps on tasting defeat because he’s headed for a gimmick change.

As it turns out, that’s what’s going on with the WWE’s latest loser, Drew McIntyre.

From PWInsider.com (via SEScoops.com):

Drew McIntyre’s current losing streak on SmackDown is expected to culminate with a character makeover. PWInsider.com reports that the Scottish wrestler will become an “arrogant playboy.”

This is good news for fans of McIntyre. Kinda, sorta.

I’m a big supporter of the guy, and since his awesome “Chosen One” gimmick didn’t really get him anywhere, I’m certainly in favor of seeing him tweak his character because he doesn’t exactly have one. He’s just Drew McIntyre, Smackdown superstar.

But I’m not sure how over he’ll get as an “arrogant playboy” or exactly what that even entails. About 90 percent of heels these days seem to thrive on being arrogant, so turning McIntyre into a cocky ladies man isn’t exactly going to separate him from the rest of the pack.

If I were on the creative team, I wouldn’t use this losing streak to turn McIntyre into a different type of heel. He’s been a bad guy for his entire WWE career, so why not have this streak result in him turning baby face?

Should Drew McIntyre turn face or change his gimmick?

McIntyre is already MVP 2.0 (remember his losing streak that turned him into a baby face in 2008?), and though MVP was better and pushed more as a heel, that losing streak did turn him into a very likeable baby face.

The same could happen for McIntyre.

The WWE is already heel-heavy at the moment, and I don’t see McIntyre leaping over a number of other mid-card heels on the WWE pecking order anytime soon.

So, instead of turning McIntyre into an “arrogant playboy,” I’m of the belief that the WWE should make him a baby face and then see where it goes. After all, everyone loves seeing a loser turn his fortunes around.

If he isn't getting shit canned after Mania WWE has me fooled. Same with Natalya. Just classic burials before they cut ties

None of those will be be getting canned. I'm not a fan of the arrogant playboy heel type, or a face turn. Just needed some better booking as an aggressive heel.

How does an extended losing streak set him up to make his character more arrogant? His ass is grass and Vince is the lawn mower

Why don't they keep him off TV then? Making him completely irrelevant if they're going to cut him seems more what they'd do, then investing in a storyline. No matter how crap it is.

I'd say having him job to jobbers makes him less relevant than just not being on TV

For instance The Pope hasn't been on TV in God knows how long. Do you think he is better off being on Impact every week jobbing to guys like Robbie E and Eric Young as opposed to not being heard from? I don't

Same with Natalya. You think she is better off with the farting storyline than no storyline at all? I sure don't

Well at least your making an impression, if you're being featured in some way it's better then not at all imo.

If it were me I'd much rather show up in a different company having not been on TV for a year as opposed to showing up as the guy who was jobbing to Santino in 1 minute squash matches

I don't think anyone will dispute the fact it's a horrible storyline but it has some form of direction which is better then none.

I'll take the neutrality of not being shown on tv over being buried any day of the week. I see why you would say otherwise, but we'll have to agree to disagree

I think the difference comes from what we view as the end game of this storyline. You guys seem to think this will bring about something positive after it's all said and done for Drew, while I don't see it happening.
