Ok, so I started to think about this and came up with this theory.

Cena is one of the if not the most hated wrestler today. People based their theory on his long title reign, well, that is long behind us and he still gets hate. Others defend their hate on the fact that he can't wrestle. Well, he might not be a 5 star wrestling man, with perfect mat wrestle, but he puts a show and decent matches. Dont tell me you actually believe that HBK, HHH, Y2J, Umaga, Randy Orton, Khali, Edge and Rob Van Dam carried him, because that may be true on one or two matches, but not on all, and all Cena's title matches were above average and reaching great.

Then, why do people hate Cena?

To give my point, let's start by saying that Cena is THEE definition of Hero. He stands for everything a Hero is, he represents everything good and heroic.

Now, let's see at the most popular wrestlers of latest time and what made them popular.

Rock: Amazing promos, in which he kept insulting his opponents in a comedy way.

HBK: He got popular as the big time heel. When face, he justy lived up his fame, but he reallu got big as the cheating, DX backing heel.

HHH: The same, got huge as a heel, and then he was so over that he kept his heat as a face. Besides, when being face, he is almost heelish, far from being a hero.

Austin: Anti-hero, no need to explain why.

Angle: Just to prove my point, when he acted as a hero, he was a heel!

You see, we hate Cena because he...is a good guy. He stands for the good, there is no shell of evil in him. In fact, when he gets cheered, it is just because he goes antihero and bashes their opponents. In fact, who are the guys that people cheer now because it is cool? Edge and Randy Orton.

Exactly.

No, we hate/ed him because he was the champ for nearly 2 years and overcame the odds 99% of the time. I mean, I understand if that's sort of his gimmick, but people don't have to like it.

I haven't minded him at all since he's come back and actually enjoyed his return. I hope they don't bury him down our throats again now that he is in the ME again.

Yes, its because hes a hero that people on the internet hate him... But, in the arena, the fans, who arent internet fans, but just wwe fans, still love Cena... Women, kids, teenagers, and men, and yes, I see them all the time, they still like Cena. The booing comes from the internet fans, the same people who have Orton in their sig (not a cheapshot, just stating facts) because they realise the behind the scenes part of wrestling, and are more interested in making up their own ideas on how things should be... And who should get pushed... So those people prefer the "bad guys"...

Also, there are actualyl more Cena likers than haters... If you lsiten, suring his into, theres always way more cheers. But during the match, his fans are content to just sit there, and nort make noise, and instead, just watch the match. So then, the haters boo him, and you can hear that clearly because theres (usually) not many people going out of their way to cheer for Cena (by making noise) even though they like him...
BTW, to the people who bitch about his title reign... Good thing you werent watching in the 70's and 80's when people had the WWE title for 4-5 years at a time...

Also, (yes Im double posting), Cena used to be way over, because like you said in your frst post, he wasnt in the hero like gimmick. He was actually (not as good) but a version of a Austin type character. No, he wasnt in the same feuds, but I mean, as a face, he still went after bad guys, but he even took out good guys, and the fans loved him for it anyways...
Basically, it was a totally different gimmick back then, which is why he was loved... Now, he's still one of the most over guys in the company, and their top guy, but theres a group of internet fans who cannot stand his gimmick.

Honestly, I have no problem with Cena when he isn't the WWE champion. After seeing that long boring run with the Title that he had, i really started to hate the guy. But if WWE can keep him out of the Title picture for at least another 6 monthes, I might actually start to like Cena again, and also when he finally does get back to the Title picture it will actually mean something...

It looks like that isn't going to happen though, since Orton is injured Cena is right back in the Title hunt

He hasnt had the title for almost a year now...
I dont see why it would make a difference how long he is away from the title... He dropped it, and soon enough he will get it back. It shouldnt matter if he's away for 6 months or 8, hes served his time, the fans are behind him again, and Cena's going to get that title back eventually... (Jus not from HHH because HHH>all:))

Yeah, it was also a good thing for the people who didn't pay 40-50 bucks every 3 weeks and order a PPV in hopes of seeing that person get beat

see, imo, I have nothing against Cena whatsoever. Though he may be predictable at times, and yes, a winner on luck, its a show guys, he brings fans live to pay good money to see who they believe is their hero or friend or a person they look up to for the future or just for entertainment. Whether wrestling is fake or not, its still a main attraction, even though its fan base IS starting to deplete. Cena is a talented superstar. Though he may not have fulfilled his dreams of the NFL at first, he moved on to a career whom of which he adored since a child and still enjoys working today. He gets paid tons of money, from wrestling, to promos, to endorsements... shit, even movies huh? Still, he may not be The Rock, or HHH, or Austin, or HBK, or anyone else I failed to mention, but hands down, he still does what he is told to do, and makes people proud, or angry. Haters on Cena to me, are losers with no balls basically. Your going to hate someone whom of which you dont even personally know, for no apparent reason. Dont get me wrong, I may not have been all out there for Cena before he got hurt/movie-filming, but when he came back I was happy. I hope he goes back to SD, wins the title there, and carries the WWE for years to come... and thats just my opinion

You have a point there, but not completely.
While yes, some people wanted Cena to drop the belt, it was their fault for ordering. If they actually thought Cena would drop the belt, when he still got some of the biggest reactions of anyone, they were stupid. We all know most of iwf doesnt like Cena, but in the arena, except for the early parts of the Orton feud, he was still getting great reactions, so of course he klept the belt...
But anyways, Cena isn't the only one who has held titles for along time. People forget Orton held it for almost 9 months, which is very long... But I guess people just choose who they like to hate, even if the reason they hate them is stupid.

No, Orton had the title for like 6 1/2 months, which is about 1/3 of the time that Cena had it. So it's not just we choose to hate the person. It's because they become stale and boring b/c of the same stuff. If Orton had the belt for as long as Cena had it, I'd be just as honked at Orton.

Well, I guess when the internet decides its cool to hate people, everyone just decides to go with the flow, instead of actualyl liking the goog guy.
But anyways, without sounding like a Cena preacher, I just wanna say that he lost the belt in the summer, and then was injured... So he's been out of the title picture for a while, and is only back in it now to avoid Khali/HHH feuds...
But the only reason people can have to hate Cena now (other than just not liking his character) is that he's still in the title picture... But then, shouldnt people hate Batista too? And Taker? Who have both been in the title picture for over a year now...
So I dont see how peopel can hate him over the title situation, but here's some other things people claim to hate him for, but these dont make sense to hate over either...

Cena's moveset- Equal to most wwe guys. Yes, theres some lower card guys who are better in the ring, but as far as main eventers, hes just as good as HHH, Batista, Edge, Orton, etc... And better than Austin, Hogan, and Rock. So its hard to hate himf or the moveset....

Cena's mic skills- Cant hate him for that.. He has his cliche lines on occasion, but he's cut down on those recently, and everyone has a few cliche lines. But overall, his mic skills are well above average, and some of the best in WWE.

Cena's appearance- You cant really hate him over this. Appearance shouldnt dictate how you like someone... But overall, if theres any wiggers (lol) out there, you can appreciate his style. Even though he isnt a full wigger liek he used to be, he still doesnt wear traditional ring wear, so all the wiggers out there (if they exist anymore) will like his appearance... And anyone who isnt a wigger, still shouldn't have a problem with how he dresses. He's not dressing over the top or anything too out of the ordinary.. Just normal clothes, and wrestling fans are mostly just average guys, so if you hate him because of his appearance, thats picking at small things...

And you sure can't hate him over his work ethic. He's one of the hardest working guys EVER in wwe... Even if the fans hate him, he still goes out with everything, and now its paying off, as the boos have been way less lately...

So my point is, the only real reason to hate him, is if you just dont like his character of being a heel.... if thats the case, I cant hold it against you, everyone has their preferences, but I just hate when people pull out all the other random shit about him.

Yeah, like I said, I don't hate him at all. Never have. I just got really tired and bored of his 18 month title reign. Right now, he's one of the more enjoyable things on Raw.
