High stakes and 'Extreme' circumstances
AJ Styles refused to brutalize WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns with a steel chair last Monday night, but as the rivalry between The Phenomenal One and The Big Dog continues to escalate, he won’t show the same restraint this week on Raw. Will Reigns need The Usos to watch his back as Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson remain in pursuit?
1. Will AJ Styles embrace his ruthless side?
Last week, as WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns was at the mercy of Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson, AJ Styles refused to brutalize the then-vulnerable Big Dog with a steel chair. Following that apprehension, an incensed Reigns went berserk on The Phenomenal One, sending his No. 1 contender through the announce table with a forceful powerbomb.
On SmackDown, Styles made it clear to Reigns that he might not show the same restraint in the future — especially when the two collide for sports-entertainment’s grandest prize at Extreme Rules. Will Styles intense desire to attain the WWE World Heavyweight Title take him down a new, more sadistic path?
2. Who deserves to challenge The Miz?
The Miz firmly believes that no one deserves to touch the Intercontinental Championship but himself — and sometimes Maryse — but that hasn’t stopped Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn or Cesaro from getting their fingerprints all over The A-Lister’s prize this past week.
All three of these men have laid claim to Miz’s title since WWE Payback, but after last Monday night’s No. 1 Contender’s Match ended in chaos, a true challenger to the illustrious championship has yet to emerge. Will the Intercontinental Title picture become clearer on Raw?
3. Where is Dean Ambrose?
After Chris Jericho sickeningly smashed Dean Ambrose’s potted plant over his head, no one has seen or heard from The Lunatic Fringe. Based on his past encounters with the likes of Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Kevin Owens and Brock Lesnar, Ambrose has, at times, seemed impervious to pain. And yet, this attack seems to have — at least momentarily — sidelined the unstable Superstar. Will Ambrose appear on Raw, or has “The Best in the World at What He Does” put the former host of “The Ambrose Asylum” on indefinite hiatus?
4. Is Charlotte running scared?
It’s irrefutable that Ric Flair has played a significant role in Charlotte’s reign as WWE Women’s Champion, so it’s reasonable that, given the stipulation that the two-time WWE Hall of Famer will be barred from ringside during her Submission Match against Natalya at Extreme Rules, the Queen City competitor might be getting anxious that her days atop the Women’s division might be coming to an end.
The Queen of Harts sent a powerful message to Charlotte on SmackDown when she made Emma tap out to the Sharpshooter during the night’s Women’s Tag Team Match. Might the same fate await Charlotte on May 22? Expect Natalya to keep Charlotte on the defensive until then.
5. Will Rusev devour Kalisto’s ‘big heart’?
Even though U.S. Champion Kalisto momentarily stunned Rusev with a daring hit-and-run attack on SmackDown, The Bulgarian Brute could be more dangerous now than ever before, bringing renewed focus to in-ring punishment following the dissolution of The League of Nations and his victory in last Monday Night’s U.S. Championship No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal.
Is The King of Flight playing a dangerous game by provoking The Super Athlete, who will soon aim to “crush” the smaller Superstar to ensnare the star-spangled title a second time?
