Raw preview, June 6, 2016: Does The New Era belong to The Club?
AJ Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson spoiled John Cena’s triumphant return last Monday night with a brutal three-on-one beatdown. Can the Cenation leader prove to The Phenomenal One on Raw that the future still goes through him, two weeks before they collide in a dream match at WWE Money in the Bank?
1. Does John Cena belong in The New Era?
John Cena entered The New Era last week with the fire and passion that we’ve come to expect from the 15-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Unfortunately, that flame was quickly snuffed out by The Club, who brutalized “The Face that Runs the Place” in a sickening and disrespectful attack. The assault precipitated a bout between Cena and AJ Styles that will transpire on June 19 at WWE Money in the Bank.
Reunited after their apparent rift, Styles, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson seem stronger than ever in their quest to rule WWE’s New Era. However, there’s no way the returning Cena will allow The Club’s actions to go unanswered this Monday night. Two weeks before Cena and Styles meet in a never-before-seen dream match, The Phenomenal One and his crew might just learn what “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect” is all about.
2. Are Becky Lynch & Natalya poised to dominate the Women’s division?
WWE Women’s Champion Charlotte ditched her father and gained an imposing ally in Dana Brooke, but a newly formed tandem dishing out submission holds and [HASHTAG]#straightfire[/HASHTAG] has them in check. On SmackDown, after Dana interfered in the bout between The Irish Lass Kicker and the arrogant titleholder, The Queen of Harts emerged to send the platinum-haired pair running for the hills … or at least the nearest exit.
Both Natalya and Becky are determined to capture the WWE Women’s Championship. But first, they probably want to join forces and teach Charlotte and Dana some manners. That lesson might happen sooner than later.
3. Will Seth Rollins’ mind games continue?
Seth Rollins took great pleasure in trolling WWE World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns and the WWE Universe last week, repeatedly feigning interest in getting into the ring with The Big Dog before ultimately taking a walk. For everyone waiting for Reigns to finally get his hands on The Architect, the drawn-out ordeal was agonizing, but imagine what was going through the mind of “The Guy,” who doesn’t want to wait until WWE Money in the Bank to change Rollins’ motto from “Redesign, Rebuild, Reclaim” to “Recover, Regret, Rethink.” Reigns will be looking for a fight on Raw; whether Rollins actually gives him one is another matter entirely.
4. Who will earn ‘Money’ momentum?
Six men have qualified for this year’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, and six men have made valid arguments as to why this is their year. SmackDown concluded with a symbolic scramble for the briefcase — housing a contract for a WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match at the time and place of the winner’s choosing — and it was Cesaro who was last to hold the coveted container. Might that be a sign of things to come, or will Sami Zayn, Dean Ambrose, Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens or Alberto Del Rio make an even bolder statement on Raw?
5. Has Titus O’Neil put Rusev on notice?
Rusev has been on a tear recently, capturing the United States Championship at WWE Extreme Rules and excessively punishing his opponents even after he has defeated them. As The Bulgarian Brute continues to mangle American Superstars he views as “entitled,” Titus O’Neil has risen in defense of the red, white and blue. Will we see another confrontation between The Super Athlete and the formidable Floridian?
