Gears of War. I've never liked shooters, I still don't! But Gears, Gears is different. It's still so much different from the run of the mill shooters we have today and I think I like it so much more than any other console shooter because of how they made it work in third person. First person view has never been my thing, it takes away the feeling of having full control for me and obviously, having control in a video game is a pretty key element to enjoying it.
One of the things that really sets it apart for me is the creaitivity that went in to the game. Instead of trying to become a realiistc history lesson, Epic went ahead and made their own story and speices. There is a ton of variety for weapon choices, the environment is interactive, the maps are well designed, it has a cast of actual characters and because of all of this, the experience means more to me when I play. I'm invested in those characters (except Marcus, he's annoying af), the story might be generic to some, but it was enough for me to fall in love with the game.
So yeah, basic reasoning behind my admiration for Gears, it's different and I like different.
