Hello everyone and welcome to the Rate Raw and Raw Recap for August 19th 2019! Tonight we got the beginning of the King Of The Ring Tournament! so this should be interesting, so as always rate in the poll above share your thoughts below, and if ya missed the show or just wanna read it anyway, you can find my recap below!

Enjoy!

Roman Reigns VS Dolph Ziggler Kicks Off The Show

We start things off tonight with Roman Reigns, but before roman gets to the ring, appearntly corey graves is on vacation, so The King Jerry lawler has taken his place.

After a recap of the Roman Mystery Attacker Storyline, we got Roman in the ring, Michael Cole reveals we will find out who the attacker is tomorrow night on Smackdown.

Dolph comes down to the ring mic in hand, he says I want to tell you face to face, im not some twitter keyboard warrior, i want to face you man to man, he says man to man hes glad Roman is okay. he goes on talking about how it should be him who is the big dog, the crowd is hot tonight chanting you suck and you still suck after a surprise superkick.

Roman comes to and we get this match started. Dolph tries to kick roman again but roman dodges it, hits a uppercut knocks dolph outside, Roman gets out runs around the ring leaps off the steel steps for a superman punch, but ziggler dodges it and shoves roman into the barricade as we go to commercial.

We come back dolphs got roman in a headlock, he punchs roman a few times roman goes to the corner, dolph charges but roman tosses him over the ropes to the outside, roman gets time to breath, dolph leans on the apron, allowing roman to hit the driveby.

Roman gets dolph in the ring and does his useal offense, Roman goes for the superman punch but dolph dodges rolls him up for the near fall, hits a solid DDT for another near fall both superstars down. Dolph gets up first goes for something but sees roman going for the spear, dolph leaps over him for the rollup for another near fall, roman picks him up for a powerbomb but dolph gets out again hits zig zag for another near fall.

Dolph sets up for sweet chin music, he goes for it but roman catches him and hits a superman punch, ref goes for the count but dolph kicks out again, romans shocked, fans are shocked, im shocked. Roman goes for the spear but dolph turns it into a Fameaser for another near fall.

Dolphs kicking roman, screaming everyone knows im better then you, you had your chance, calling roman an idiot, saying do something he has roman in the corner, he creates distance to do a super kick but roman spears him finally for the pin.

This was a really good and solid match to start the show.

Kings Court with Sasha Banks

We get a recap of Sasha Banks return last week, as always a great video package. i appreciate the blue tint effect because banks's hair is blue, nice touch.

We see Becky backstage and she says last week sasha beat her stupid with a chair, and people keep asking her why she keeps calling people out, becky says she wants to fight the best she wants to fight everyone at their peak, and sasha is at her peak, so becky wants to fight her, great promo.

Then we got Jerry lawler in the ring. He says he has to mention the king of the ring tournament because...well hes the king, he talks about how the king of the ring can be a launching pad for superstars, he keeps promoteing it and he predicts that from Raws side, its either Cedric alexander or Ricochet who will win, and from the smackdown side..and then the lights start to go out, The Fiend is coming.

Jerry says he's seen this before and wisely gets out of the ring and is running up the ramp, he gets to the stage as the lights are out and the spooky lighting comes on, flashing on Jerry but the fiend is nowhere to be seen, that is until he slowly rises up from behind Jerry in perfect horror film fashion, Jerry turns around and the fiend kills him with the mandible claw and lays him out.

Lights go out and come back on, Jerrys still dead as referres and medics come in to check on him, and we go to commercial.

The Miz and Ricochet VS Baron Corbin and Drew Mcintyre

As we come back Jerry is replaced by some...other commentator.... Vic Joseph... and we get this match started.

Miz and Ricochet quickly get the upperhand and Drew and corbin get sent to the outside, Ricochet gets on the apron runs up the turnbuckle and does a moonsalt onto corbin and drew who Miz pushes to ricochet so ricochet can hit them and we cut to commercial.

We come back and corbin has control of the match, he throws his suit away and now he doesnt look like an idiot anymore, he looks like a million times better now, drew tags in keeps control as Miz tries to fight out but gets smashed by drew, Eventually miz makes the hot tag Ricochet takes control, lots of high flying moves as youd expect.

Chaos insues Corbin goes for a chokeslam ricochet flips out goes for another move but corbin turns it into a deep 6 for the near fall. Corbin gets ricochet into the corner tries to hit him but miz pulls ricochet out just in time corbin hits the post, ricochet then hits the codebreaker for the pin.

We got sasha banks backstage sitting down in a chair for a interview, but thats later, now we got another skype interview, this time with Booker T. Its just as awkward as the stone cold one last week, booker praises the king of the ring hypes it up. Booker predicts that Drew Mcintyre will win.

Braun Stroman comes out for his match with AJ

Braun Strowman VS AJ Styles w/ The O.C. United States Championship.

We start off with AJ Styles getting in strowmans face and the match gets underway, but unfortunately it doesnt last long, the OC gets involved causes the DQ and beats down strowman, rollins music hits he comes out for the save, and the two stand tall.

Next up we got the first match of the King of The Ring tournament. But first we got rollins backstage and he stops braun, tells him he wants braun to be his next challenger, but first they gotta deal with the O.C. So rollins is gonna try and get him and braun a match against the OC later tonight for the tag team titles.

Cesaro VS Samoa Joe - King Of The Ring

We got the first match of the king of the ring tournament, this match should be fantastic, lets hope it is.

We start the match with a absolutely brutal fast and just incredible uppercut by Cesaro, he goes to suplex joe but he cant and joe hits a knee strike in response just as hard, Joe takes control for a moment but Cesaro hits a springboard uppercut and the two fight a bit more, Cesaro gets knocked to the outside and Samoa joe does a suicide dive to the outside as we go to commercial, man what a start.

We come back and joes laying in punches to Cesaro in the corner, Cesaro lays in uppercuts in response but Joe shuts him down with a huge clothesline. Joe locks in a headlock as Cesaro begins to fight out, joe hits his own uppercut knocking him down, joe goes for the senton but cesaro rolls away, both men get up joe gets in the corner cesaro hits uppercut after uppercut again and again and then runs the ropes hits the big boot.

Both men try to suplex eachother, joe tries he cant cesaro tires he cant, cesaro tries again he cant quite do it he falls down both stay locked in then finally cesaro suplexs joe, both men get up laying in the hits back and forth, joe gets to the outside cesaro runs the ring and hits a uppercut on the outside, gets joe in the ring hits a crossbody from the top rope for the near fall.

joe crawls to the corner gets up, cesaro goes for a attack joe counters the urinagi then a senton for a near fall. Joe throws cesaro into the ropes goes for the clothesline cesaro dodges it hits some uppercuts does the swing, he transitions into some submissions but joe uses it to try to pin cesaro who breaks the hold, eventually cesaro goes for a springboard uppercut but joe catches him into the clutch for the submission, and Joe is your winner.

24/7 Title Saga Continues.

We get a replay of what happened on social media, and then we get Elias in the center of the ring, sigging his fairwell song because hes got so much on his plate he cant do it any longer, he has multiple tech issues he needs a better guitar, some guy goes to hand him a new guitar takes it back, turns out its r truth, who makes multiple attempts to pin Elias but fails as Elias escapes.

We got Rey Mysterio backstage, appearntly hes got something to say.

He says please believe i'm a fortunate man and had a wonderful career, hes been wreslting since his uncle trained him and hes had the oppertunity to meet people all over the world, but recently things just hvaent been clicking, and what andrade did was a disgrace, he ripped his mask off, and in his culture, when you rip someones mask off its the biggest insult.

He says when he steps into the ring, he can see ahead of time what his next moves are gonna be, but his body doesnt respond accordingly, his biggest fear is now those injurys have caught up to him, he says i know this day has to come to everyone at some point, he just didnt expect it would come to him, but he now understands, its time for him to hang up the mask, and let this new generation make their way in. He tries to take his mask off but his son comes in and stops him.

Dominic says a bunch of stuff and convinces Rey not to retire.

Next up we got The New Day in action...wait arent they on smackdown?

The New Day VS The Revival

We start off the match with a big clothesline from big e and he takes control, they work over scott dawson in the corner and work together to beat down dawson, but dawson counters woods and gets control, both work over woods in their corner, both go back and forth until new day knock them to the outside as we go to commercial.

We come back as woods knocks zack wilder off the top rope, and both men are layed out as woods gets the hot tag, big e comes in takes the two out, he knocks wilder to the apron, Big E runs the ropes, and gets hit with a RKO from out of nowhere, Randy ortan causes the DQ Kofi comes out for the save but he gets a RKO, orton picks kofi up xavier goes for the save but he too gets a RKO, woods and kofi are layed out, they get Xavier into position but randy grabs kofi and makes him watch, then revival hit a move that looks like they broke xaviers leg as kofi was helpless to do anything.

We got Sasha Banks backstage and she says its been such a crazy emotional week for her, she explains that last week she looked in the mirror and told herself......... blue is your color! isnt that crazy? its all over social media! and its time for her to show up and show out, she looks good and feels even better.

Michael cole being the idiot says nobody is talking about her blue hair crowd boos, he talks about the attack on natalya and says they will thank her for explaining and Sasha says simply.....You're welcome.

Next up we got Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss in action.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross VS Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville

I gotta admit Michael Cole taking corey graves role was funny, "Thank god for the widlcard rule" i laughed a little, i must admit. i like how the commentators take turns filling in for graves spot, love it.

So Deville and Cross kicks this match off with some solid wrestling, Sonya is great in the ring, mandy gets the tag in and so does alexa, the two battle a bit, Alexa pushes Mandy to the ropes ref breaks it up, and with the ref distracted Alexa backs up nikki sneaks a kick in, mandy attacks her then alexa attacks her when she is not looking as they take control. That was until Mandy rose hit a knee and both superstars are down, both get the hot tags in comes sonya and nikki, deville takes control does some good stuff sonya hits a spinebuster, Sonya takes alexa out which gives nikki cross the oppertunity to hit her finisher for the win.

We got more rollins and braun backstage seth talks about how if they win by DQ they lose the titles so they gotta be careful, braun looks at the universal title and seth says Braun if you follow my lead we may walk out tag team champions. Braun stands up and says Seth if you follow my lead i promise we will walk out tag team champions, and braun walks off.

Cedric Alexander VS Sami Zayn - King Of The Ring

We got the second match in the king of the ring tournament, and as this match gets underway, Sami immediately brings in the punchs and kicks and takes control, he hits some moves beats up cedric, locks in a rest hold. Cedric fights out of it hits some moves and gets control, cedric flys to the outside hitting Sami, he gets sami in the ring and hits a kick and then the lumbar check for the pin.

We got street profits backstage, they got their own brackets and they do their thing and they are still hilarious. Dawkins asks why there isnt a tag team king of the ring, ford says its because the street profits are already kings crowd cheers, they trnasition to rollins and braun vs the OC for the tag titles being next.

But first we got natalya, she said she just came from the doctor, she said she knew, she expected, this to be a emotional week, but she didnt expect sasha banks. She says sasha is her friend, sasha was her friend, sasha was one of her closest friends and thats why she can wrap her head around why sasha would do this, she goes on and sasha attacks her again, she beats her down slams her arm into a cabnit.

Sasha says go to hell nattie, and tell your father i said hello.

And now for the main event of the show.

Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman VS The O.C. w/ AJ Styles. Raw Tag Team Championships.

We start the match with gallows and strowman face to face, both men are giants, Strowman beats him up in the corner and then lays him out, he tags in rollins who doesnt get much offense before the OC takes control, gallows tags in anderson and rollins gets control, he knocks the OC outside the ring but Gallows recovers and slams rollins on the barricade twice as we go to commercial.

Seth and anderson are in the center of the ring trying to tag eachothers partners while not letting the other person tag, seth stops anderson attacks gallows but runs into a spinebuster from anderson for the nearfall. Anderson sets seth on the top rope and goes for the superplex but seth blocks it, hits a headbut to knock anderson down, anderson runs to attack again seth stops him and hits the blockbuster.

Seth tries to tag braun but anderson tags gallows who stops seth, brauns outside confronting Aj styles but gallows slams braun into the ring post, he gets in the ring and seth hits a super kick, both anderson and gallows are in two opposite corners and rollins goes to work going back and forth, he knocks gallows outside and gets back in the ring and hits a falcon arrow on anderson for the near fall.

Anderson in the corner rollins goes to attack anderson, who sends him over the ropes but seth lands on the apron hits a kick and knocks him away, seth goes to the top rope AJ knocks him down with the ref distracted as the OC takes control. The OC goes for magic killer but seth fights out, OC shuts him down though as the two on one assault continues, braun is still out.

Gallows is holding seth outside the ring, AJ goes to do something while the ref is distracted by anderson, but braun comes in smashes AJ then smashes gallows, gets in the ring smashs anderson and gets to his corner seth tags braun in, braun comes in lays out anderson hits him with the powerslam, braun goes for the pin and Aj tries to get in the ring to stop it and he gets a curbstomp, then Braun gets the pin. Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins are your new tag team champions.

Braun and Seth celebrate on the stage and hold their new titles high as the show goes off air.

....

It was better than last week but still not at all above average compared to other weekly wrestling shows. Most of the matches were uninteresting and the wild card rule basically spoiled a good part of the show again. The bright side is the main event match - both when it comes to ending and overall wrestling, and also Cesaro vs Joe was pretty good. Had no idea who was that fella named Cedric but he was good in ring and nice that he won.

When it comes to non-wrestling things The Fiend angle was decent, and Seth & Braun brollins segments were on point. The most disgusting moment of the night was exploitation of Natalya’s father death.. WWE doesn’t seem to ever want to stop using people’s deaths to promote themselves. It’s fucking sick and immoral, no matter did Nattie agree to anything or not.

Okay so let's have look here...

~ R0m4NW!N5LOL!
~ So the best the WWE can come up with for the Fiend is attacking has-beens? Yeah...
because that serves no purpose whatsoever. Also the Fiend using the mandible claw
just makes this entire gimmick seem like a Mankind/Foley rip off.

In fact now I think about it...it even seems exactly like the 3 Faces of Foley...

Original Bray = Cactus Jack...
"Mr. Rogers" Bray = Dude Love...
The Fiend = Mankind...

See what I did there?

~ So Strowman is a face again now?
~ Joe advances...
~ I've always wondered if Sasha dyes her pubic hair to match...

What?!

Don't pretend like I'm not the only one who thinks about this kind of stuff!

~ Alexa Piss-Break continues her mission to bury every other woman on the roster...
Fuck I hate her...like she is actually one of the main reasons I stopped watching. I just
can't believe someone so small with so little wrestling talent can be booked so strongly.
At least Roman & Charlotte can go in the ring...Alexa is a cute ass & a promo & nothing else.
~ Cedric advances? Okay...
~ Shouldn't Sasha be attacking Becky...not Natalya? Why is Nattie the punching bag? Are
we setting up Nattie helping Becky retain the title? Seriously if Sasha doesn't defeat Becky
for the title then she may as well have stayed at home.
~ And The Club kept those tag titles for a long time didn't they? Watch them
slowly disappear from TV again now they have resigned.

Whatever...no one cares what I think.

Another great recap by Alpha...

Nice work Broski...

I'm sure reading it was much better than actually watching RAW itself.

And I'm just going to leave this here...

Honestly i gotta say, Romans been having some surprisingly great matches lately, his match with Buddy Murphy last week and now Dolph, these last two matches were great. If WWE let roman have these good matches all the time he wouldnt be hated.

Yeah see for me...wrestling good/great matches
isn't enough to get me to like the guy.

Roman can have 5 star classics every week...but...

1). I ain't watching any of his matches...

&

2). Despite his "health scare" I still remember all
the pathetic, lame, forced attempts the WWE made
since the Royal Rumble 2015 to get this guy over...
& I want no part of it.

I'm glad he's healthy...BUT I'm not giving him a "free
pass" for all the other bullshit that came before it.

Sufferin' Succotash!

The opening match between Roman and Dolph was done well and was exactly what a match between 2 former champs should be.. competitive and fun to watch.

The Fiend is going to eventually have to do something or WWE is going to end up losing the audience... attacking legends is not something that the WWE Universe is going to tolerate for much longer.. there needs to be reason and purpose.. they need to get him straight soon or it'll be too late.

Sasha Banks does not do promos well... shut her up and let her kick ass and drop the occasional one-liner.. the "Go to hell, Natty and tell your father I said hi." line was perfection... less talk, more action.

The tag match just revealed the winner of KOTR.. Corbin vs Ricochet in the last match on the RAW side with Ricochet moving on to face the Smackdown winner.. most likely KO.

Randy Orton and The Revival is awesome.. plain and simple... the RKO outta nowhere on Big E was fantastic.. the sadistic mauling of Xavier was fantastic.. Orton holding Kofi and forcing him to watch was fantastic.. 10/10 match and segment.

Retire the 24/7 title.. that shit is just a ridiculous waste of time now.

Bliss/Cross have already held the women's tag titles for too long... they need to be on Asuka and Kairi Sane... it needs to happen sooner than later.

Cedric over Zayn was predictable.

The main event... it was pretty good.. I added 1 point to my rating because I enjoyed it and I enjoyed the outcome. It's obvious that Braun is going to be Seth's next opponent for the universal title.. but to have them first be champions against against a common enemy is a pretty good start to their feud. Obviously they are going to lose the titles to OC next week most likely... hopefully it's handled correctly.

Can anyone explain to me why these last 2 Roman Reigns
matches have been good? I mean EVERYONE knows the
outcome before they even start...so how can anyone be
invested?

I mean I think the last guy to actually defeat Roman was
Shane McMahon...and then before that...Broke Le$nar?

I mean all these matches are is more talent getting fed to
Roman to make him look strong.

If Roman truly was a "Big Star" & the "Face of the Company"
shouldn't he be giving back to roster at this point?

He was in the main event of 4 straight Wrestlemanias and
has basically achieved everything he can at this point...so
why not have Buddy Murphy pin him on SDL? Why not give
that match a surprise ending that also acts as HUGE boost
for Buddy & would actually make me want to see it?

When does Roman start giving back to the roster that he's
basically been feeding on for the last 4/5 years?

A WWE with Roman Reigns sitting at the "top of the pile" &
constantly defeating everyone else is not a TV show/wrestling
product I want to watch.

And for the record I wouldn't want to watch it if anyone else
was sitting on "top of the pile" either.

God help the Fiend if he crosses paths with Reigns...

Don't think Vince hasn't had that idea.

The Fiend is going to eventually have to do something or WWE is going to end up losing the audience... attacking legends is not something that the WWE Universe is going to tolerate for much longer.. there needs to be reason and purpose.. they need to get him straight soon or it'll be too late.
Exactly my line of thinking.

Its almost like no one on the RAW roster wants to
work with/put over the Fiend...apart from Balor who
"gets it" because he does the "Alter Ego" shtick as well.

Sasha Banks does not do promos well... shut her up and let her kick ass and drop the occasional one-liner.. less talk, more action.
Again...exactly my opinion on the situation.

@Just Kevin know if I was going to watch RAW...it
would be in your living room with a couple of pizzas
& a case of beer.

The most disgusting moment of the night was exploitation of Natalya’s father death.. WWE doesn’t seem to ever want to stop using people’s deaths to promote themselves. It’s fucking sick and immoral, no matter did Nattie agree to anything or not.
Its because the WWE (more likely Vince) thinks that
to make his product seem "fresh & edgy" he needs to
exploit the deaths of those close to his performers.

Rudy Riott did this with Nattie & her Dad (so its not even
a "fresh" exploitation) & the worst example of this being
Paige mentioning Reid Flair...which was just sickening.

But hey...its the WWE...

They can do whatever they want & most of their fan base
will keep watching the trash they serve up.

Not me however...I made my choice & I'm sticking with
it...because frankly...we as fans deserve better.

The reason people have been getting invested is because, while roman did win. He was able to put both superstars over by letting them get very close to winning, and also by them kicking out of moves most people dont, useally roman hits the superman punch and its over, but Buddy Murphey kicked out, so did Dolph, sure they lost but they looked great doing it.

Lets say Roman is the top guy,. number 1, that means these two superstars came dangerously close to winning and beating the number 1 guy in the company, they looked great because of romans status.

Not to mention the match was just plain exacuted greatly, you were able to believe buddy murphy could win at any moment, you could believe dolph was gonna get the win, they got a good bit of offense and roman sold it beautifully, being shocked when he didnt win like he normally does, showing these guys were stronger then he thought, pushing roman to work harder to win. And giving dolph or buddy the ability to say they allmost beat him, and they know they can beat him, it gives them a reason to try again and maybe succeed next time.

there is alot more but i think you get the idea, there is alot of factors at play.

here is a example, think of Undertakers wrestlemania matches, prior to brock you knew he was gonna win, but the times they made you believe there was a chance of him loseing was the best matches, sure he won and you knew hed win, but it was still a great match.

Now, im not in any way comparing romans matches to undertakers, im just giving you a example of how its possible to be invested when you know who wins.

History is written by the victors...not Viktor from the Ascension...
and a wrestler doesn't put another wrestler over unless they are
defeated by said wrestler.

Close enough or almost isn't good enough in my book.

I'm just giving you a example of how its possible to be invested when you know who wins.
Well...I can't do that. I can't being invested in a Roman Reigns match
because of how protected the guy has been. The only time I could
stomach a Reigns match is after he returned from his drug suspension
& they were putting Balor, Jericho & Ambrose over him as punishment...
but even then he was dropped back to the mid-card & went over Rusev
multiple times even though he was acting like a jerk & was carrying the
U.S title around like a sack of old potatoes.

Seriously...Roman can have all the great matches he wants & sell as much
as humanly possible...but until people actually start defeating him CLEANLY...
well...why should I watch a greasy haired, boring Samoan Lux Luger be booked
in "God Mode"?

I'm not doing it...

And personally I find it hilarious that the only way he could get over is
to recover from a life threatening illness...

Frankly its all horseshit.

5/10.

I don't see how it is immoral. Sure it may very well be tasteless. But definitely not immoral. Doesn't break any morals at all in my book. Sasha us a heel. She is a bad girl. This fictional character isn't being portrayed as a hero. She has done a bad thing and it's being portrayed as a bad thing. Stop trying to restrict stories and characters.

If you get offended by this then ffs get a life

Honestly i gotta say, Romans been having some surprisingly great matches lately, his match with Buddy Murphy last week and now Dolph, these last two matches were great. If WWE let roman have these good matches all the time he wouldnt be hated.
Surprising? When has he ever not had good matches?

Hes had a few good matches but majority of his matches is he gets worked over and then makes his comeback superman punch and possibly spear for the win....thats it.

With these last two matches there was alot of good back and forth between the two and you could believe roman could lose, you didn't know for certain if he was actually gonna win again, thus they were great and stood out compared to most of his matches.

I'm from winnipeg you idiot
Wow I didn't expect that ending, definitely brings some intrigue to this Rollins/Strowman feud. I would usually say that a random team winning the tag titles is bad for the division, but lets not kid ourselves, there is no division. Seems like they are paring the tag titles feuds , with the World title feuds on both brands. Interesting.

Great stuff with Orton. RKO for everybody, and making Kofi watch as the Revival hurt Woods is textbook psychotic, dickbag Orton. After the Summerslam finish I thought this feud would fade into obscurity, but thankfully its still going strong.

Sasha and Becky both looked good. Becky's promo is the best she's cut in a long time, and bitch Sasha is the best Sasha.

What is the deal with the Skype interview for the second week in a row, is this an actual thing now?

Elias will probably be the longest 24/7 champion of all time, since he can kick out of roll-ups.

The Fiend attack on Jerry was good. I actually liked the fact that King tried to run away instead of standing in the ring like an imbecile. Bray appearing behind him on the stage was a great visual.

The wrestling on the show was decent, with 2 good matches.
Roman v Ziggler was fun, and surprisingly competitive. That spear into a fameasser counter was great.
Joe vs Cesaro was very physical and hard hitting, as you would expect from these two guys. Very enjoyable match
Judging by the bracket of the KotR, the semifinals will probably be Cedric vs Drew on the Raw side, and Owens vs Andrade on the SD side.

7/10

Is it just me or are they trying a lot harder to get people over? There's a long way to go but signs of improvement are here
