Brazil's SporTV is reporting that verbal agreements are in place for a light heavyweight showdown between Rashad Evans and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira for the annual Super Bowl weekend card. Neither fighter has signed a contract yet, but sources indicate the bout is in the works.Evans has not fought since April, falling to UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones via decision. The former champion is 17-2-1 in his career.

Nogueira (20-5) recently offered to step in and face Forrest Griffin later this year, but that bout went to Phil Davis. Nogueira will have been on the sidelines for well over a year if he returns in February to face "Suga," as his last fight came in December vs. Tito Ortiz.

MMAFighting.com has confirmed that the Evans-Nogueira match is "under serious consideration" for February 2 in Las Vegas.

Okay fight i suppose, It'll be nice to see Rashad back in octagon.

Doesn't make sense to me, bit of a high risk little reward fight for Shad.

He wins and he's in the exact same spot he was before the fight, +1 on the win sheet. Beating Lil Nog does nothing for anyone these days, hes below gatekeeper status IMO.

He loses and he might as well drop to 185 because he wont be seeing any decent fights at 205 for years. Big chance he could lose too, Shads expertise is in wrestling, but Nog is dangerous on the ground. Think we'll be seeing a sloppy stand up fight here.

Doubt Shad would take this fight if he didn't think he would win.

Rashad is still one of the premier fighters of the 205 division and I would rather watch him fight Hendo over Machida imo.

Yeah this is one of those head scratcher fights. Like if Lil Nog wins then its good for him and elevates his status. Shad wins its like... well you were supposed to win so congrats you are still in the same spot you were before.

Just be good to see Shad fight again. Hopefully we'll see the Shad that took apart Tito, the vicious Shad. Not the tame one that fought Jones in ATL.
