Raquel Pennington replaces injured Julianna Pena at UFC 171
Raquel Pennington (4-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has replaced injured Julianna Pena (5-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) and fill fight fellow 135-pounder Jessica Andrade (10-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) at UFC 171.
UFC officials recently announced the change. Pena suffered a severe knee injury, as MMAjunkie reported on Wednesday.
UFC 171 takes place March 15 at Dallas’ American Airlines Center. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.
UFC officials haven’t finalized the bout order.
Pennington, a semifinalist on “The Ultimate Fighter 18″ (Pena was a show champion), made her UFC debut at the TUF 18 Finale and posted a decision victory over Roxanne Modafferi. It halted a two-fight skid for Pennington, who suffered back-to-back losses to Cat Zingano and Leslie Smith with Invicta FC before joining the “TUF 18″ cast.
Andrade, meanwhile, made her promotional debut at this past July’s UFC on FOX 8 event and lost to former UFC title challenger Liz Carmouche via second-round TKO. She rebounded at this past October’s UFC Fight Night 30 event with a dominant decision win over vet Rosi Sexton.
