MMAMANIA:

They’re still trying to call me the heavyweight champion. I resigned and relinquished the title. Nogueira’s in my opinion the champion now in the UFC…I need to be free and clear of that before I can pursue this fight somewhere else with Fedor (Emelianenko). I’d love for the UFC to step up and make the fight happen. It has the potential to be the biggest mixed martial arts fight to date…It has the potential to do 700,000+ pay-per-view buys which is a helluva lotta money. I think 6-10 [million should be the salary] for each of us and they’re still gonna make a boatload of money on top of that.

– Former (or current, depending on who you ask) UFC heavyweight champion Randy “The Natural†Couture tries to crunch the PPV numbers during a recent guest appearance on The Adam Corolla Radio Show. Couture is currently in exile after walking out midway through his UFC contract and does not wish to return to action unless a bout with WAMMA heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko can be arranged.

Looks like Couture knows what he wants.

I don't see what the big deal is. If the only issue is the signing of Fedor Emelianenko, then just freakin sign the guy already. Even if they are just for one stinking fight it's not worth losing Couture just because you're not willing to sign one fighter.

Who knows how much Fedor would be asking to affiliate himself with UFC. There is much more possibility of this happening on Affliction that UFC.

A counter point also I would say to myself, why the hell does it matter so much for Couture to fight Fedor? I mean, he's got a law suit on his hands, he's not generating anymore income, and his income for UFC was still huge, and for what? Because he wants one fight with Fedor? Everyone is acting really stupid professionally over this whole incident. IMO

Well I guess Couture takes his sport very seriously, he wants the best competition. He wanted Fedor and UFC couldn't do it, so it apparently pissed him off so bad he wanted to quit. Don't ask me, but turning down the top spot in the UFC is pretty bad. He must have had some other reason, but there is nothing I could think of. The man wants a fight, that's all he wants, apparently he wants it more than the UFC heavyweight crown.

With gowth in popularity comes growth in unwanted areas like politics. To us, it's very simple. Sign him, fight, everyone goes home. Couture has never come off as a bitchy primadonna like every other athlete in professional sports. I wonder if UFC is trying to procure some kind of negative image so fans might begin to resent him.

Well, the UFC gave us Liddel vs Couture before. So they do give us what we want. But sometimes you cant get what you want, not because of them not welling to provide this fight (Couture/Fedor). Its just what I believe is that there might be some other hidden information we dont know about yet.

On a side note, maybe couture doesnt want to fight Fedor in the UFC (the place where he is a current champ at). So he has chosen Affliction just that if and I say if he loses to Fedor, he wont be that embarresed and wont lose the title.

Yea it would have to happen in Affliction because UFC already tried signing Fedor, they failed, and you don't see them trying again, so UFC is so out of the question.

It's not that UFC didn't want to give us what we wanted, its that Fedor refused to sign. Theirs really nothing more the UFC could have done. Couture is being a huge baby. If he wants to fight fedor that bad then he should finish up his ufc contract and then face him.

PS: Fedor would fucking destroyy couture.

-The latest update on the Randy Couture/Fedor Emelianenko fight is that both fighters are publicly trying to pressure the UFC into making the fight happen. The big hold up is the fact that Emelianenko's team want to remain a free agent and are only willing to sign a two-fight deal with the UFC. The UFC is highly unlikely to sign Fedor to a two-fight deal just to have him walk away when his contract is up.
