Does anyone know how to get videos from your laptop to your TV? Like I just downloaded Lockdown and don't want to burn it to a DVD. I just want to watch it on my TV via my laptop. I've been told I need an HDMI cable, but I really don't feel like paying 100 bucks atm. Is there any other way?

Rep for any help.

Thanks

Although I have no idea what an s-video output is or where to find it. There's a bunch of usb type ports on the sides of my laptop.

I know mine has a yellow plug similar to a PS/2 plug (like a mouse or a keyboard) with an icon of an S inside a TV. I don't know if that's S video or not though.

Edit: Yeah, mines an S Video jack.

here's a couple pics :

Mine has 7 pin holes though.

ok, I got an HDMI cable and figured out how to get the picture to show up on my TV screen. Now the only problem I have is getting sound. It won't come out of my laptop or my tv. I have to hit fn+f4 in order for it to show up on my tv. Until I do that however, sound comes out of the laptop. When I hit it, it doesn't.

I've looked around and people said just restart your laptop and turn off and on your tv, but that obviously doesn't work because I still have to hit fn+f4 to get it to switch to my tv, which takes out the sound apparently.

Anyone know how to get sound to come out of the tv? A HUGE thanks and rep to anyone that can help here again.

I'm not just referring to the Lockdown download. I've tried to watch YT videos as well. Nothing has sound.

some hdmi ports on some devices do not do sound (most do, some do not) its possible your laptop is in the minority. If it is, on most tv's one of the audio rca imputs is shared with the hdmi port on the tv. In which case you could run a headphone to rca cable from a headphone jack on your laptop to the tv as well, but beyond that I'm not sure. my laptop does not have an hdmi port and hitting fn+f4 on my laptop puts it into sleep mode. I would have to do audio the way I just memtioned and use the svideo port for the video on mine.

On the back of the hdmi package it came in, it says it's video and audio.

Also, my laptop is like a month old.

well yeah the cable would be...all hdmi cables are capable of audio and video, the question is, is your laptop hdmi port audio and video? It may only be video.

It's a brand new laptop. The guy at best buy said it'd be perfect for what I was trying to do.

EDIT- I told him what laptop I had and he said it'd be fine. So I image it more than likely would.
