I remember being a boy a boy in the 80s and the Apter mags referring to Pat Patterson winning the IC title in Rio. Did the kayfabe sheets at the time report it as a genuine win? Did they give tournament results? Did they go as far as to decide a venue and attendance? I'd pay good money for a copy of the Wrestler or some other mag that listed Sammartino-Backlund on the undercard at the Rio Di Janiero Civic Centre, with a crowd of 34,000.
I've never seen any results of the famous (and fictitious) tournament, which "took place" in Rio De Janiero in August or September of 1979. It wouldn't shock me if the magazines did create a whole fictional story to go with it, although I've never heard of it.
Has WWE purchased the tape library from the good old days of Memphis? (CWA, USWA, etc.)?
To the best of my knowledge, they have not. From what I understand, there is a bit of confusion over who exactly owns the rights to that old footage, the result of the mess that was created when a group of Cleveland investors tried to purchase the company in the final years.
I just watched the Dusty Rhodes Story on DVD and they didn't mention his time at ECW (even if they do have an ECW match on disc 3) and they don't mention that he ran his own company (Turnbuckle?). Why?
My guess, and this is just a guess, is that since the ECW run and Turnbuckle were such a small part of his career, they just left it out. Personally, I think the reaction he got from the hardcore ECW audience says a lot about Rhodes popularity, and would have been worth including.
When Kane was forced to unmask in the ring a few years ago, it was revealed - to the audience's surprise - that his trademark long hair was a wig. My question is whether the Kane mask always had hair attached to it like that, or what we saw for all those years Glen Jacobs' real hair?
No, Kane didn't always have a wig. There was a time when the long hair was his. I'm not sure when he made the decision to shave it (and go with the wig attached to the mask).
Is it true that when Rob Van Dam was a kid, he appeared on WWF television taking one of Ted DiBiase's "challenges" where DiBiase proved that everyone has a price for the Million Dollar Man?
Yes, back in the late 80's, a teenage RVD appeared in one of the bits DiBiase did. I believe he kissed the feet of DiBiase for $100.
