Orton's psychopath gimmick is IMO one of the best things to come around in a while. HOWEVER... it almost seems like a slight failure to me. There's no secret that fans were eating that shit up and chanting for Orton in situations where I'm sure it was hoped he'd be getting massive heat. Over the past few weeks I've noticed Orton has kind of morphed again.
Sure, he tried to break Shane's leg...but that crazed look and drooling were gone, and he just seemed like angry Orton. Even his speech on the mic has once again been sped up and he's dropped a lot of that slow droning speech he was doing for a while. It seems that in order for him to catch heat they had to go the predictable route of having him blatantly insult the fans.
So what do you guys think... was the Orton psychopath gimmick almost too good to gain him heat?

It just needs a break. You can't have Orton go on as a psycho for his entire remaining career, as it will take away from the luster of the HHH/Orton feud going into Mania and Orton's character back then, so they go with this route in which they slightly change Randy, in a way in which only if you pay close attention you won't notice the difference, and while you kinda know it's not the same, thus saving the character for a bigger feud, it isn't a complete character overhaul.

It's like Psycho Edge. They went full force with it for Summerslam 08, but only half for Backlash 09.

I think that Ortons character is perfect. Its not a fail at all, all guys start to get a bit dusty so to speak. I bet you within the next few weeks he will do something that will make him psycho Orton again. Punt Linda or steph? I dunno but it always happens a quiet few weeks then he becomes evil again its just injecting freshness into his character. I think he plays good, in fact to damn good.

I know there's tons of Orton fanboys here, and I wouldn't call myself one of them, but even I must say... This gimmick has been anything except fail. It's been great. Sure, they're easing it off a bit, but I fail to see how that means it's a failure. He's gotten some of the best heat of his career with it, and had some of his best success.

Look @ when it stopped... after he punted Triple H. He lifted the weight off of his shoulders, so to speak. Sure he's still dealing with Batista... but Orton's biggest peeve the entire time was Triple H. He got his revenge, he's settling some.

But if you look back through Orton's career... it's rare to find him RKO someone when he has heat where he doesn't stop for a second and put on that emotionless face... I doubt they'll have him stop that. It's a quiet time as said above... but it'll reintroduce itself eventually.

This is my pet peeve with the IWC. Even when things are near perfect with a character they still want to nit pick and find fault. Orton's been perfect.

Orton has been perfect indeed he has. I mean what do the people who think hes a fail want him to do? i don't get it?

Perhaps fail was the wrong word. I meant more so that it didn't do as great a job to get him heat as they had hoped. As I said, it almost worked too well and everyone loved it. Something that they hoped would get him heat was getting his name chanted week after week. Therefore, they needed to alter it and have him insult the fans.

I think Orton's doing just fine. True psychopaths have the ability to switch from normal to psychotic at will. In addition true psychopaths have the ability to look the relatives of the person they attacked in the eyes and not show any emotion.

^^^^^ Agreed dude people choose to cheer him maybe for his wrestling and guile not just his heel ways. Remember hhh as a heel? He would get cheered for it. It is just the way it is with wwe crowds sometimes. Booo the face (Cena) Cheer the heel (Orton).
