DAYTONA BEACH -- A pregnant woman accused of shooting her boyfriend Saturday night said she was tired of him but didn't break up because he drove a nice car, a police charging affidavit shows.
Patricia Jaggon, 27, who is six months pregnant, was arrested and charged with attempted murder for the shooting of Bobby Cord, 58. She was being held Sunday night at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $100,000 bail, a booking officer said.
According to Daytona Beach police investigators, Cord, who had been living with Jaggon for a year, went to their apartment at 629 Jean St. at 6:28 p.m. Saturday to get his personal belongings.
When Cord got to the apartment occupied by seven children and three adults, he headed to the master bedroom and demanded his belongings from Jaggon, pushed her, took her phone and smashed it against a wall, the charging affidavit states.
Jaggon grabbed a .380-caliber handgun from under her pillow, pointed it at Cord as he left another room and fired, according to the affidavit. The bullet struck Cord in the right arm and chest, police said. Cord was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center where he was listed in stable condition Sunday night, hospital officials said.
Cord left the apartment and a friend started driving him to Halifax, but met an ambulance which took him the rest of the way, police said.
His daughter, Kyla Cord, told police Jaggon said she was going to kill her father, then "put lemons in a sock and hit herself with it" and claim she shot him in self-defense. Kyla Cord told police she got an instant message from Jaggon three days before the shooting saying "she is going to shoot Bobby Cord, she is tired of Bobby Cord and she is with him because he drives a nice car."
