Pregnant teen shot and killed in Marquette Park, baby saved - Chicago Sun-Times
A pregnant 17-year-old girl died after she was shot in the head and critically wounded Tuesday night in the Southwest Side Marquette Park neighborhood, but her baby survived the attack.
She was walking with a group of people in the 3000 block of West 64th Street about 10:35 p.m. when an unknown male exited a vehicle and began firing at the group, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said. Everybody scattered, but the pregnant teen was hit multiple times. Her companions returned to find her lying wounded on the ground and called for help.
The girl, who was six months pregnant, suffered gunshot wounds to the body and a critical gunshot wound to the head, according to Fire Media Affairs. Paramedics found her in full cardiac arrest and performed advanced life support treatment as they took the girl in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
She was pronounced dead at the hospital 11:11 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. Her name has not yet been released.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight said the baby survived the attack and is in “stable†condition early Wednesday. A hospital official declined to release information on the baby early Wednesday.
Wentworth Area detectives are investigating, but no one is in custody.
