Police are looking for a 3-year-old girl and her father who went missing sometime between boarding a flight in Atlanta and when the baggage claim at LAX..

Elizabeth Day, 3, is the daughter of Jenna Johnston of Los Angeles and Galen Michael Day of Atlanta, Ga. The two parents share joint custody of the girl and she stays with each parent for two weeks at a time, according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release.

Galen Day was due to return to Los Angeles May 11 and return Elizabeth to her mother. When he didn't, Johnston contacted her attorney, who drafted a revised custody agreement for the two parents, according to the release.

The girl's father was supposed to return her to Johnston's custody by June 6.

Johnston tried to contact Galen Day by phone before and was unable to, according to the news release. Day sent Johnston an e-mail June 8 saying he would return to Los Angeles on June 10. He provided the flight number and the time the plan was expected to land.

When Johnston confirmed the flight information with the the airline, she learned Day and Elizabeth had rescheduled to a later flight, due to arrive at 10:30 p.m. June 10 at LAX.

Johnston and a friend she shared with day waited at the airport baggage claim for Day and Elizabeth to arrive.

But they never did, according to police.

The flight arrived on time but Day and Elizabeth never made it to the baggage claim.

The airline told Johnston that Day and Elizabeth boarded the flight in Atlanta but neither arrived in Los Angeles, according to police.

Johnston waited at the airport for hours and only found Day and Elizabeth's luggage. She claimed the bags and went home to wait for some contact from Day.

Johnston's friend -- who accompanied her to the airport -- got a call from Day about 11:15 a.m. Saturday. He told the friend that he and Elizabeth were in a Los Angeles hotel. He refused to disclose his location and would not speak to Johnston.

Then, police say Day hung up the phone and hasn't been heard from since.

Elizabeth Day is described as a thin white girl with dark complexion. She has brown hair and brown eyes. She stands about 30 inches tall and weighs 45 pounds.

Galen Michael day is a 41-year-old black man with brown hair and brown eyes. He is five feet, 10 inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. He has a medium build and medium complexion. Police believe he is driving a 2011, red Ford Mustang, with a California license of 6LRN864.
