Well that wasn't awful but it's one of those remakes that do absolutely nothing better than the original animated flick and make you wonder why they even bothered.
Kind of disappointed with Zemeckis' directing, it was very flat and uninspired.
They took out the whole underwater sequence and turned Monstro into a Kaiju. They also added some smoke monsters on Pleasure Island, that was random as hell. A couple of not very useful side characters too, and the coachman now has his own song for some reason.
I know making the exact same movie wouldn't have made any sense but most of the stuff they added or changed doesn't seem particularly relevant.
