The actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment on Sunday morning of an apparent drug overdose, according to a law enforcement official who requested anonymity because he was not certain the actor’s family had been informed of the death.

The official said Mr. Hoffman, 46, had been found in his West Village apartment around 11:30 a.m. by a friend who had become concerned at not being able to reach Mr. Hoffman.

A cause of death had not yet been determined, the official said, but it appeared to have been the result of an overdose.

A woman answering the phone at Mr. Hoffman’s New York production company declined to comment. “I don’t have a comment at this time on that, thank you,” she said.

Quality actor. Supposed to have a movie he directed coming out soon not sure what that will mean for that film.

Tragic. He was an amazing actor, so much range. Hard to believe he was only 46, he had already achieved so much in his career.

RIP

Had some good movies I enjoyed.

But I won't ever respect anyone who dies from drugs, suicides or any other preventable ways. I'll withhold my RIP until the real scoop comes out.

Anyways, I really enjoyed him in Hunger Games and its going to be interesting to see how they go along with Mockingjay now because his character is featured in both.

Pretty sure part 1 is already done filming but part 2 isn't

They may just be able to kill the character off. He isn't that big of a role but he does play a big part in the end Catching Fire and beginning of Mockingjay.

Heartbreaking for me. He has gone far too soon. A true acting great who could bring great entertainment or emotionally depth to even the weakest of films. Not to mention all the masterpieces he starred in. Such as his work with the great Paul Thomas Anderson (Boogie Nights, Magnolia, The Master, Punch Drunk Love). Some indies gems also such as the Savages and Happiness. And his Oscar for Capote was justified but he should had won at least a couple more.

I am going to spend the rest of this day watching his work and reading tributes.

RIP. My thoughts are with his family.
