The tweet caused some over reaction on the Internet, but Pettis related to MMJunkie that it was a reference to existing injuries, and not something new.
"Same injury," Pettis said. "Taking way longer than expected to recover."
Lightweight contender Anthony Pettis sprained his shoulder while training, but the injury will not prevent a potential showdown with Donald Cerrone, a source close to the fighter told ESPN.com on Tuesday.
According to the source, Pettis will miss a few training session but expects to return to action by January.
Pettis’ trainer Duke Roufus told ESPN.com in August that Pettis competed with a ‘serious shoulder’ injury in each of his two most recent fights. Team Pettis has not yet revealed which shoulder the fighter injured.

Shoulder problems have however apparently scrapped hopes to get a coaching slot on TUF that has now been taken by Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen.
"Still recovering from shoulder surgery," Pettis told MMAFighting.com, "and it's taking longer than expected. I was hoping to get 'The Ultimate Fighter' gig because I was told it was me and Cerrone coaching, and now it's not happening. I'm just frustrated with everything, man."
Pettis hopes to fight in January.
Whenever this fight happens it's going to be a number one contenders fight i guess. Hoping for Cerrone/Bendo. I wouldn't mind seeing Pettis/Bendo as well but i don't think Pettis will have an answer for Cerrone when they fight.
