First review of 2009 :happybday:
Anyways, here we go.
1. X Division X-Scape
Suicide (c) vs. Creed vs. Lethal vs. Davari vs. A JAP
Solid opener with some cool stuff. Not as many spots as I would have hoped for here, but still solid nonetheless. Suicide picks up the win after he does a BACKWARDS MOONSAULT~ from the top of the cage onto like 5 people including A JAP to win as he beats Davari who was trying to escape through the door.
Winner: Suicide
Rating: ***
2. Queen of the Cage
ODB vs. Daffney vs. Madison Rayne vs. Sojournor Bolt
Basically just a time filler. Although it was better than I expected, nothing happened in this match that was anything special.
Winner: ODB
Rating: *
3. IWGP Junior Tag Team Championship
The Motor City Machineguns (c) vs. The Latin American Xchange vs. No Limit
Solid fast paced tag match. Some pretty good spots. Hernandez is a fucking beast. He about KILLED Sabin with a spot into the cage where Sabin fell back down on his head. He then Border Tossed Shelley into the cage. Later, the Guns ended up pinning a JAP with the Made In Detroit. (I think that's what they call it)
Winner: The Motor City Machine Guns
Rating: ***1/2
4. Doomsday Chamber of Blood
Abyss vs. Matt Morgan
Both of the these matches that TNA has done have been nothing special. During the match, Abyss bladed like crazy as his head was literally dripping like a faucet. STEVIE COMES DOWN and takes away Abyss' chair and goes after him and basically costing him the match when Morgan slams Abyss into the tacks he set up before Stevie came in.
Winner: Matt Morgan
Rating: **
5. TNA Women's Knockout Championship
Awesome Kong (c) vs. Angelina Love vs. Taylor Wilde
Very surprisingly good match. Why Angelina is the one getting the ring time and not Talia slays me, but whatever. During the match, one of the greatest things I've ever seen happened when Kong went up to the top rope and did a 360 splash but Angelina moved out of the way. That was fucking impressive. Anyways, as the match came toward the end, the Beautiful People tied Kong's hair the cage and Angelina rolled up Wilde for the win.
Winner: Angelina Love
Rating: **3/4
6. TNA World Tag Team and IWGP World Tag Team Championship (Philly Street Fight)
Beer Money Inc. (TNA Champs) vs. Team 3D (IWGP Champs)
Match started out slow as they brawled up into the crowd. This crowd was INSANE. Tons of ECW and WE WANT TABLE AND FIRE chants. The ref was holding the fans back as they battled everywhere. Once they got back to ringside, Beer Money set up a table and suplexed Devon through it. Once back in the ring, Bubba hit a BUBBA BOMB FROM THE TOP ROPE on Roode. Awesome stuff. On the outside, Storm sets up to slam the cage in Devon's face, but it backfires as he hits Roode. Dudley's with the 3D on Roode through the table ftw. Very solid match as much better than I expected tbh.
Winner: Team 3D
Rating: ***1/2
7. Lethal Lockdown
Team Angle (Kurt Angle, Booker T, Scott Steiner, and Kevin Nash) vs. Team Jarrett (Jeff Jarrett, Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles, and DANIELS)
I literally
'd at TNA not calling Christopher Daniels anymore and just referring to him as DANIELS when he was introduced. Before Joe comes out as the 3rd member of Team Jarrett, he's seen talking to someone in a curtain for a while. Wasn't exactly sure what this was about. Anyways, some good stuff in this match, but not as good as previous Lethal Lockdown's. They did something with the top of the cage to where you supposedly couldn't climb up top anymore, but Angle found a way in the first minute. He goes up top, does some stuff with AJ, then goes back down. About 30 seconds later, AJ is still up top and just randomly jumps into the middle of the top of the cage and it breaks as he goes falling through down to the ring and on top of others. Sick shit. Jarrett then later accidentally hits AJ with a chair. At the end, Jarrett teases hitting AJ with the guitar, but hits Booker instead and AJ pins him ftw.
Winners: Team Jarrett
Rating: ***1/2
After the match was over, the LIGHTS GO OUT and some music hits the PA. It's the sound of a car engine. Kind of figured it'd be Taz or someone like RVD perhaps (longshot), but then the name BOBBY LASHLEY hits the tron and it shocks the piss out of me. I can honestly say this was a GOOD shock. Not bad. I like the idea. Love to see where they can go with this. The Mafia has smiles on their faces as the segments cuts.
8. TNA World Heavyweight Title
Sting (c) vs. Mick Foley
Before the match, Foley brought the barbed wire bat to the ring, but the ref confiscates it. I had to figure it'd come in to play later, which it did. During the match, Foley goes and baseball slides/kicks the camera man through the hole in the cage where they film it at. He then tries to escape through there and as he can't fit through, the camera man which he kicked down, hands Foley the bat.
lmao: wtf) He uses it on Sting and eventually wraps SOCKO with it and uses it on Sting. It didn't seem like Sting got much offense in, unless I'm forgetting some stuff. Anyways, they both go to climb the cage at the end, and Foley just drops and hits the floor before Sting. Nice clean finish. (I hate shit where both hit the floor at the same time. Way too overplayed) I'm a fan of Foley winning actually. It will be mighty interesting to see how they play this out. All in all, a solid match with some good brawling.
Winner: Mick Foley
Rating: ***
Overall Thoughts: Pretty solid show from TNA. I'm actually glad I watched it. I'll tell you this: If it wasn't for HBK/Taker at WM, this PPV would have been better, which is mega sad for WWE. Anyways, none of the matches on this card were bad. All were watchable, which is always a plus. However, none of them were AMAZING. Still solid all the way around though. I will definitely be watching Impact this next week to see the fallout of how they use BATHTURD, how Foley's reign will begin, and the fallout of Lethal Lockdown and Team Jarrett. Should be interesting to say the least.
Score: 7.5/10
