A welterweight contest pitting Paulo Thiago against David Mitchell has been agreed upon for UFC 134. Sherdog reported the fight citing Thiago as a source.
UFC 134, also known as UFC: Rio, takes place Aug. 27 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.
Thiago burst onto the scene when he knocked out Josh Koscheck at UFC 95. He proceeded to face a murderer’s row of opponents including Jon Fitch, Mike Swick and Martin Kampmann. His UFC record currently stands at 3-3.
Mitchell was weened in the Tachi Palace Fights promotion. There he defeated War Machine, Tim McKenzie and former KOTC champion Bobby Green. In his UFC debut, he suffered his first-career defeat when he dropped a decision to TJ Waldburger.
Headlining the UFC’s return to Brazil is a middleweight title fight. Champion Anderson Silva will defend his title against Yushin Okami. The Japanese fighter scored a disqualification victory over Silva in 2006, and the “Spider†has not lost since.
