Patricia Arquette has been tapped to star in the planned spinoff episode of “CSI,†set to air later this spring.

The spinoff will focus on how technology has reached a point where faceless criminals can commit major crimes with the touch of a button. It’s inspired by Mary Aiken’s work as a “cyber psychologist.†Arquette will star as special agent Avery Ryan, who is tasked with solving high octane crimes that start out in the cyber world and play out in real life.

Most recently, Arquette had an arc on this past season of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire†as a love interest for Steve Buscemi’s character. She also had a seven-season run on NBC’s “Medium,†which earned her three Golden Globe nominations, two Emmy noms and one win in 2005.

Outside of television, Arquette recently completed shooting Martin Scorsese’s “The Wannabe†opposite Vincent Piazza.

The spinoff comes from “CSI†creators Anthony E. Zuiker, Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue. The trio will pen the script for CBS. They also serve as exec producers, alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnathon Littman. Aiken will also produce.

Arquette is repped by Gersh Agency.

This sounds interesting but could loose steam really quickly. Just bring back Miami and NY and I will be happy.
