After an 0-2 run with the promotion, the Minnesota-based fighter late Monday said he no longer is with the company. Schilling announced the news on his official Twitter account, though his fighter profile still remains at UFC.com as of Tuesday morning.
Schilling had started his career 5-0 with five first-round stoppages in regional competition before he made his UFC debut this past January.
Schilling was working at Best Buy in the gaming department when he got the call from the UFC to take a short-notice fight with Daniel Pineda (17-8 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC on FX 1 in Nashville, Tenn. Pineda, who also was making his UFC debut on short notice, made relative quick work of Schilling, forcing him to tap just 1:37 into the fight from a rear-naked choke.
Schilling got one more shot in the UFC earlier this month on the season-finale card for "The Ultimate Fighter Live." But against Max Holloway (5-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC), he was outmanned in the standup game and dropped a unanimous decision, losing 30-27 on all three judges' scorecards.
On his official Twitter feed, the 23-year-old Schilling said he was thankful for the chance to fight in the promotion.
"I've officially been cut by the UFC," Schilling stated. "I am the luckiest guy in the world for the opportunity I was given. Thanks to all of you for the love. Now, time to celebrate the coolest time of my life: the time I got to be a fighter in the UFC!"
