Paramount Tracks Down Huck & Tom
Mark Twain's heroes all grownsed up

There have been several versions of Mark Twain’s classic teen characters Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn on screens both big and small. But while they’ve mostly maintained Twain’s 19th century adventure seekers as boys, Paramount is thinking differently, picking up Andrew Burg’s Huck And Tom.

While the plot is being kept buried in the swamps for now, the Heat Vision Blog dug up that it’ll re-imagine the duo as adults, and upping the stakes a la Snow White And The Huntsman. Oh, and they’ll deal with “supernatural elements.†So might we see Sawyer and Finn facing down ghosts? Werewolves? Monsters? The dread shade of Injun Joe?

Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes producers Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark are on board to develop the script, with Bedtimes Stories writer Matt Lopez also helping to shepherd it to the screen.

Given the devoted following Twain has attracted over the years, everyone involved will need to tread carefully with this one. While reports of Twain’s death haven’t been exaggerated for years (he shuffled off this mortal coil in 1910), his ghost could always make trouble for anyone screwing up his characters. And if he’s too busy being witty in the afterlife, there’s always Val Kilmer…
