I'm not gonna rehash old questions, rumours, reasons or scenarios about the tragic death of The Rocket Owen Hart. I'm here to ask a different question; why was The King of Harts never given that big push? Why was he restricted to the mid card?

Owen Hart was a King of the Ring. He had some great title reigns and some of the best feuds & matches of the 90's with the likes of Bret Hart, HHH, Ken Shamrock and Stone Cold. But for some inexplicable reason, after a great run in the Nation and Hart Foundation, he was put into a nothing storyline with Jeff Jarrett, Goldust and Debra. Why was he restricted to a bit part role in the IC title picture instead of maybe beating HBK or Undertaker for the WWE title.

Beside the fact that it would have saved his life (sorry had to mention it), the guy deserved! A great wrestler, great talker and over like rover. Would it have been that much beyond the realm of possibility to give him a shot at the main event???

RIP Owen.

I'm one of the biggest Owen Hart marks there are. He was so underrated in his time. He was a great effective heel and, when he came back after the Screwjob, a great face and had a great deal of talent in the ring. I know I might get hate for this but I really prefer him to Bret. Owen just had the better overall package because not only could he work but he could talk, something Bret always struggled with.

The reason, I think, that he never got that push is the Matt Hardy syndrome, meaning his last name hurt him. Matt never got the big push because Jeff was the guy fans thought of when you said Hardy, same goes with Owen. When fans thought Hart, it was Bret. Plus, on top of that, management never saw the potential or just didn't care to.

And, IDK if this contributes but almost paralyzing the guy whom you want to build your company around and who would go on to be the biggest wrestling star in history wouldn't gain you brownie points.

Aight... first Hoov you coming off like a lil pussy. If you really that big of a fan of him as you say you are it shouldn't matter if you get hate for what you feel or anything... cause I can say that what you are saying there about him being underrated or being preferred to Bret is not that uncommon. So you're not stepping out on some sorta ledge or anything but more saying what half the people out there are already saying. Not ground breaking at all.

But as far as Owen not getting that big push... there was just something about him that couldn't be caught. Bret had that leadership factor to him in that you could get behind him... then again they also looked to keep him up and built him for years before his rise. Owen came in as the younger brother. Although he was more agile he was still the "younger brother" so he was always cast in the shadow as Bret just kept climbing and excelling... Owen would come up here and there but his role always kept him down cause the older brother just seemed to have that "it" factor.

Fast Forward to post screwjob and Owen is the Black hart...and had an awesome match with Shawn. He had a good feud with Triple H, he had some real good matches but he still wasn't catching. Yeah he could talk, yeah he could definitely wrestle, but he just didn't have that "it" that could really get him over. Then what didn't help was in the feud with Jeff and Debra is that he was extremely committed and did not want to do the proposed story in stealing debra from Jeff and so he was punished for that as well.

Owen had everything that was needed to get to the top... but that is when that connecting "it" factor is needed and it just wasn't there. You could watch him all day but it was just difficult to really get behind him.

Dude, what the hell? I just said that because there are those who find Owen overrated and saying he's better than Bret is like blasphemy so I was acknowledging the fact that I might get flack for it. Do I care if I do? No. I'm a big Owen fan as I am of Bret and don't care who knows it. I never said I was stepping out on a ledge or whatever. I was just stating my opinion. Calling me a "lil pussy" is totally uncalled for dude.

He wasn't a main eventer, he was a midcarder and a solid one at that.

I don't know why IWC seems to think everyone needs to win the top belt to be considered a successful career....Jake Roberts is the GOAT and he barely touched a title.

Anyway, rose tinted glasses off, Owen was very bland and generic throughout, the only real period he could of took off was that Slammy award winner gimmick he had, which was gold.

He's way better than his overrated brother but thats not saying much.

Yeah, Owen would have made for a fun main eventer but I think he would have been suited as a filler for an upper midcard spot. He was supposed to main event in 1999 but I'm not allowed to discuss why he died because my thoughts on the afterlife aren't taken seriously here.

I had ur back til I read this. Ur first comment didn't make u a lil pussy, but this one certainly does.

I don't think everyone needs to be at the top, that why I specified Owen Hart. Owen was certainly not "bland," he was a fucking legend!

And bret was def not over rated. Maybe not quite as good as Jake the Snake but better than 99% of what the last decade has produced.

He actually did win the WWE Championship at a house show once, but he dropped it back to Bret at another house show before either of them were on television again, so it didn't mean anything. A similar thing happened with Ted DiBiase I believe.

I'm pretty sure Owen was never pushed towards the main event for two reasons: 1.) His passion wasn't wrestling. He actually made it clear to family and peers that his real ambition was to be a fireman one day. It's possible Vince never pushed him to that level because he felt Owen's heart wouldn't be in it. 2.) After the screwjob, Owen didn't want to wrestle in WWE anymore anyways. He was basically forced to serve out the remainder of his contract and Vince sure as hell wasn't going to make a main eventer out of him then. It's amazing he was so high on the midcard during that period when you think about it.

Now that's what I call an answer! Very informative.

I must be missing something or didn't get the memo. Since when does expressing my fucking opinion make me a pussy?

U obviously didn't notice, I told that guy who called u a pussy that it was harsh. Why I think ur a pussy is ur snivelling little response to that guy callin u a pussy. I actually agree with what u said in ur initial post, I "liked" it. But then the @Slim called u a pussy and u replied with this:

Dude, what the hell? I just said that because there are those who find Owen overrated and saying he's better than Bret is like blasphemy so I was acknowledging the fact that I might get flack for it. That's why I think ur a pussy, nothing to do with ur opinions.

heh yeah its all good. I know it was harsh but... so be it.

So onwards we go with this conversation as to why Owen Hart was a upper midcard at best and could never cross over to the main event.
