Think back in history. Think of some of the greats from back then. Some of the legends. Some names that may come to mind are Ted DiBaise, Roddy Piper, Mr. Perfect, Owen Hart, Rick Rude, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, and others. Now, besides being extremely talented, all of these legends have one thing in common, they never held the "big one." None of them ever made it to become World Champion. Their names won't go down in the history books as World Champions. Though many say they deserved it. Beyond deserving. But I see in a different light. I see it as, Wrestling needs World Champions, just as much as they need the ones that never get it. It adds to the belt, to the history, to the drama. Thats why some people in the WWE today, I see as the None Champions. People like Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, William Regal, Mark Henry, Chavo Guerrero, Gold Dust, and you can even throw in some long shots like Daniel Bryan, Drew McIntrye, and John Morrison. The ones that have left an impact on the WWE, but just could never get the "big one." Not everyone can be champion, and think the people who don't become champion, are just as important as those who do.

Back in the 80s there was only one champion to carry a company or territory. Now it's a brand itself that carries a company. Suffice to say, Hogan was the rock that supported the WWF in the 80s and none of those names would've been able to bare the load.

Now to be champion, you just need to a push. You don't have to carry the company on your shoulders like they had to do back in the day. Plus the fact that we are in the day of opinions and the ADHD nature of wrestleing fans who constantly want change and bitch about it when it happens.

In their eyes everyone should be champion. This isn't the 80s, this is the internet.

These days, with WWE have two world titles, more major stars will become world champion. Anyone that gets a good push on either brand will more than likely end up with the title eventually because the titles change hands more often and there are two chances in the company. These days I don't think there will be a situation where a wrestler that gets to the level of a Piper or Perfect wouldn't end up with the title. Just look at Christian, for years he never got that chance but eventually he was in the mainevent and he got that title win.

Guys like Kofi, McIntyre, Bryan are not quite at the next level yet and so until they do it wouldn't be a big surprise if they don't win the world title. If they can have that one fantastic run then everything could change, just look at Jack Swagger who is a two time world champion. He had a great run which lead to two titles but now he is back down to the midcard level.

Don't forget though that those guys played a huge part in WWF and Hogan's sucess too. If he didn't have such great heels like Dibiase and Savage to play off, then things could have been different. Not sure I agree that those guys couldn't have carried the company, when you have that much talent, I think it is possible to do anything, but it is just the way WWF went, and because it worked out so well, everyone was happy.

Back to the point, the difference is many of the mid-card guys mentioned, are no where near as over as their 80's counterparts. People don't talk about the fact that the likes of Dibiase or Jake Roberts never held the World Title, they talk about the characters themselfs, and some of their classic feuds and matches. A guy like Roberts didn't need a title to be over, yes titles should be important, and top talent should win them, but it didn't hurt the Snakes career because he didn't win them.
