Five matches added to Dominion June 9!

Six championships to be defended across five new bouts

Dominion is rapidly approaching, with Osaka Jo Hall seeing an immense night of action June 9. As NJWP gears up for one of the year’s biggest events, including the Best of the Super Jr. 31 final, five more matches have been added to an increasingly loaded card.

Tickets available worldwide!

The IWGP World Heavyweight Championship will be on the line when Jon Moxley defends against EVIL. After Moxley faced Shota Umino in an epic affair in Ontario on May 11, a mark of mutual respect from champion and challenger was rudely interrupted by the King of Darkness. EVIL spray painted the world title belt black before declaring that he was the next challenger, or that actually ‘I am the real world champion, so you are next to challenge me’.

A furious Moxley backstage said that HOUSE OF TORTURE had no place in anything to do with the IWGP title, and that he would ‘rid New Japan Pro-Wrestling of the scourge that is HOUSE OF TORTURE’. Not only is Moxley looking to rack up his fourth defence in a two month span against EVIL, but can the champion finally send H.O.T packing, or will EVIL be representing NJPW as its top champion heading into Forbidden Door?

Shingo Takagi will defend the NEVER Openweight Championship against the returning HENARE. The Maori Warrior announced his return to the cerulean blue after a life threatening injury during the Dog Pound Cage Match in Osaka this February, with a video promising NEVER success during Resurgence. Takagi and HENARE’s history is an intense and violent one, with knockout battles in 2023 in the New Japan Cup and over the KOPW 2023 title particularly memorable. HENARE has vowed to ‘bring the mana to NEVER’, and there could be no better test of warrior spirit than with the Dragon.

Yuya Uemura puts the KOPW 2024 title on the line against Great-O-Khan in a rematch from the Road to Dontaku. Gaining his first career championship, Yuya Uemura has been emboldened to pick any number of fights, leading to a challenge against Shingo Takagi for the NEVER title in Ontario. Though Uemura came up short, the Dragon was forced out of his orthodox comfort zone as part of a back and forth bout that helped re-establish Uemura to US fans. Back in japan though, and he has unfinished business with the former KOPW title holder in O-Khan.

The Dominator was forced to temporarily halt his plans to ‘unite the fiefdoms’ of Japan under his steady hand, and now wants to get back on track. O-Khan has even suggested that he would face Uemura under the title holder’s previously desired stipulation of a Catch Rules match- quite what rules will be in place for Osaka Jo remains to be seen.

After a heavy hitting defence of the NJPW World TV Championship against Lance Archer at Resurgence, it’s Tomohiro Ishii next in line for Jeff Cobb. In the midst of a hugely impactful tag team battle at All Together, Ishii was able to hoist Cobb for the Vertical Drop Brainbuster and pin the Imperial Unit. Now Cobb has another tough challenge on his hands in Osaka.

Both the NJPW STRONG and the IWGP Tag Team Championships will be on the line in Osaka Jo Hall, in a tornado elimination four way match. After Chase Owens and KENTA used just about every dirty trick in the book at Dontaku to defeat Bishamon and regain IWGP Tag gold, then NJPW STRONG Openweight Tag Champions TMDK stepped up to protest. That drew El Phantasmo and Hikuleo to join the fray, themselves upset at having lost a challenge due to a handful of tights in Hiroshima, a wrong they righted by recapturing STRONG gold at Resurgence.

Now, four teams will compete in one match over two sets of titles. There will be no tags in this contest, and the winners will have to survive through three falls, as teams are eliminated one by one until one set of tag champions remain.

Ishii vs. Cobb and Shingo vs. Henare sound great. They really couldn't do any better than EVIL for Mox's challenger though?

With Ren Narita getting a shot it was kind of inevitable that Mox would have to beat the faction leader too. Even worse, there's an above 0% chance Evil wins lol

I laughed my ass off when EVIL came out saying I'm next it was expected though considering he beat Narita and Perry. Still he had a meaningless win in a Tag Match and he's acting like he won the New Japan Cup or the G1 Climax or something. Might as well humble their asses so we don't need to suffer through a Match later between the two.

Shingo vs Henare is going to be the Match of the Night because Shingo gives a damn about the Never Openweight Title and clearly has been the best Matches on the Card since he got it back.

If he defends against evil, he'd have the most defenses of any champion with this belt ever or at least ties it lol he's doing a terrible job holding it hostage
