Nick Diaz Suspended For One Year

Following an hours-long meeting, the NSAC has voted to suspend Nick Diaz for a year, and fined him 30% of his purse, and 30% of his bonus for the Condit fight.

They were streaming his hearing online and i watched a little bit of it, and I'll say that the more he was honest the worse it all got. At one point they asked him when he was going to smoke again and in typical Diaz fashion he responded by saying when he gets home tonight.

It's his second time getting busted for pot, and it's not a big deal but the athletic commission doesn't give a shit about anybody. He's suspended for one year to the date of when the Carlos Condit fight took place, so Febuary 4th, 2013 he'll be eligible to fight again.

I think he's an important part of MMA/UFC. Maybe this year off will help him out in the long run, so hopefully he doesn't stay "retired"

The hearing was ridiculous......they were asking him if he's ever had the munchies...... what the fuck

Cesar Gracie summed all this up best - "Getting drunk and wrecking cars or doing steroids between fights is OK. Smoke weed legally before fights and the NSAC throws the book at you"

Yeah it was pretty ridiculous, Diaz and his Lawyer are back to suing the Athletic Commission now. Diaz also says that he's not retired and would like to fight asap.

Overeem was only suspended for 9 months also, while Diaz got a year. :

That is rather crazy that a guy gets caught with a little weed and he is out for a year. Another guy gets caught with 14 times the level of testosterone for a normal person and he gets 9 months.

So if you get caught with anything in MMA... make sure it is testosterone. Not weed. Or get drunk... I mean do whatever but just don't smoke weed.

I think it's all a conspiracy, the only reason he got suspended for a year is because he tried to Sue them.

It was his second offence so that probably added to the length of the suspension. In the end it is illegal to use pot if you are an MMA fighter, ignore whether you think it should be illegal or not, it is illegal at this time so he shouldn't be using it. When it is legal to use then feel free to use it all he wants but until then he will continue to get suspended if caught
