Nick Catone vs. Tom Watson booked for UFC 169 on Super Bowl weekend
A middleweight bout is the latest addition to the UFC’s Super Bowl weekend card in New Jersey.
Nick Catone (9-4 MMA, 3-4 UFC) will meet Tom Watson (16-6 MMA, 1-2 UFC) at UFC 169 in February. UFC officials announced the fight Thursday night.
UFC 169 takes place Feb. 1 at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and MMAjunkie.
Catone will be looking to rebound after a two-fight skid that saw him drop a TKO to Chris Camozzi and a submission to T.J. Waldburger in 2012. Those losses came after a two-fight winning streak. But Catone, a New Jersey native, has been on the shelf all of 2013. In April, he was expected to face James Head at UFC 159 in Newark, N.J., but missed weight and was pulled from the fight and hospitalized for dehydration symptoms. In his career, Catone is 7-1 in his home state.
With the addition to the card, UFC 169 now includes:
Champ Dominick Cruz vs. Champ Renan Barao – bantamweight title unification bout
Champ Jose Aldo vs. Ricardo Lamas – for featherweight title
Frank Mir vs. Alistair Overeem
Chris Cariaso vs. Kyoji Horiguchi
Nick Catone vs. Tom Watson
