Anyone hear about this? Some morons in charge decided it'd be a good idea to have a "fly by" with a low flying 747 plane through New York, and have it have a fighter jet chasing it, so that they could get a good "photo oppurtunity"! What kind of shit is that? People in New York were actually gathered in the streets watching, thinking it was a terrorist attack, and I can see why. What kind of moron would think that's actually a good idea, and not expect people to freak out?

If the authorities knew then that's their own paranoid minds' fault. You can't just expect people to not ever do anything that may remind someone of something. I'm sorry, but if they had permission from the authorities then it was no one else's business.

^Lol, wait, what are you talking about? You do know the story, right? It's not random people getting permison from authorities to do it. It was the authorities who did it. It was the government who arranged the photo thing with the two planes. But, in their wisdom, they informed the NYPD, but not the mayor of New York, or the governor.
And really, this is more than people just being scared just cause it reminds them of 9/11. It's not like it was a normal plane just flying around, and people flipped out. It was a plane flying lower than any normal plane does, being chased by a fighter jet... Would that not scream "terror attack" to you?

They could have at least sent out a news bulletin, or held a press conference so the city would know what was going on. A low flying plane having a fighter jet chasing it would strike fear in any city whether it reminded you of 9/11 or not.

If the government wouldn't even let the city know about this, imagine what else they are keeping from us. ALIENS ARE AMOUNG US!!!! AREA 42 IS REAL!!! SPREAD THE WORD!!!!

Seriously though, that's fucked up.

It was 100 feet above the Statue of Liberty, and flew directly over ground zero. The Fire Departments weren't even aware of this, and most police officers had no idea either. There were hundreds of people who had heart attacks, several of whom died. No New York Government official was aware of what was happening, they were as clueless as the public.

There are 3 easy substitutes for this problem though.

1. Tell people you're doing it so you don't cause such a terror. Even the people who were able to read "Air Force One" on the side could have thought that someone hijacked the President's plane, or that there was a problem with the plane and the President could be at risk of dying.

2. Computers. Just do the shit via a computer and have those "photos". It's not necessary to get a photo of AF1 in action, while it's actually IN ACTION over Manhattan not even a decade after 9/11.

3. Do the shit in the air over the desert or some remote landmass where there's no risk of scaring the shit out of the public.

And who in the fuck needs photos of the BACKUP AIR FORCE ONE JET!? People don't need to see that shit, for reason. Photo op? My ass. They made a fucking mistake, and Obama is a jackass for this shit!

According to CBS, Obama didn't know about the occurrences ahead of time, and he was furious when he found out.

On the issue of sources, where did you read that people died from this? I had yet to hear anything of the sort.

Watched a few reports on FoxNews after the shit had happened. Then again with them, it's entirely possible they speculated deaths. But with that many heart attacks (which were reported on several stations), it's highly likely fatality was a result for some.

Even still, doesn't change the fact that it was tasteless and wrong.

I don't get how you can blame anyone for being 'scared' over this... It's not unrealsonable. Again, it's not as if a plane was just flying lower than usual... It was flying over New York City, very low, being chased by a military/fighter plane. How can you not think that'd be a terror attack when it's happening? Are you trying to tell me you wouldn't think anything when you see this? If so, LOL.

I'm sorry but I still blame everyone's paranoia about this. If they hadn't jumped to conclusions it wouldn't have been a problem.

Chuck that'd be like sitting in class at Columbine and seeing someone running in with a gun. Say its just an actor your sitting there, your going to spaz the fuck out.

If a military fighter was following then I'd think the situation was monitored and I'd be RELIEVED when I found out it was nothing....not mad that I was fooled.

That's is exactly what I would think, that or the plane is recieving a military escort. And J-Dawg that is a completely different situation there aren't people running around with guns everywhere but planes fly over NYC everyday.

To elaborate on what J-Dawg said, if you were sitting in the middle of a shooting/hostage situation at work or school, just cause there was police in the building hunting him down, shouldn't make you feel better. It wouldn't for me either. How could the fact that there was a fighter jet make you feel safer? It was only chasing it. There still would've been nothing to stop the plane from crashing in to the building.
