October 1 launch scheduled; trailer and packshot released
NBA 2K14 has been confirmed for current and next-gen platforms.
Perhaps no one is happier about LeBron James making the NBA Finals to try for his second straight championship than 2K Sports, who announced the NBA MVP as its cover athlete for NBA 2K14, launching October 1 in the US, and October 4 internationally on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
What’s more interesting than the man on the box, however, was when IGN asked about Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions. 2K Sports Senior VP of Basketball Operations Jason Argent confirmed their availability and said, “We will be day and date launch titles for both of those platforms.”
That also means that the Xbox One and PS4 will not launch before October, and almost certainly not before October 8 (one week after NBA 2K14’s current-gen release).
In addition, after NBA 2K13 was a launch title for Wii U last year, Argent confirmed that NBA 2K14 will not be coming to Wii U. “We are not doing a Wii U version this year,” he said. “We decided internally that resources were best put towards building a current-gen and next-gen game.”
Intriguingly, Argent said there would be differences between the current-gen and next-gen versions but declined to elaborate, saying, “Both current gen and next-gen will be unique, distinct, and independent from each other.”
Finally, Argent said we can expect to see more on NBA 2K14 soon: “We will have some more to see and hear at E3 next week.”
The current-gen versions will get a King James Bonus Pack free with a pre-order. It includes exclusive content featuring LeBron James in an unexplained capacity along with 10,000 VC points, extra content for the all-new Path to Greatness mode (which James is involved in), playable James in Blacktop mode, and an all-new Signature Skill for the man known as “King James.”

News for the 2k fans. I probably won't get it but yeah. Nice cover and I'm surprised that it is LeBron's first cover.
