OMAHA, Neb. -- More than 200 officers in riot gear from local, state and federal agencies worked with three police helicopters and blocked off 15 Omaha city blocks with barricades, mounted police and city trucks to greet 60 Nazi protesters on Saturday.

Dodge Street, the city's main thoroughfare, was closed for more than six hours.

Police said they wanted to make sure a protest by the National Socialist Movement, also known as the American Nazi Party, didn't get out of hand.

As a stream of counter-protesters gathered nearby, the protesters shouted sieg heil in front of a closed Mexican Cosulate.

"Anti-illegal in particular, but we have a problem with all immigration, you know? We need to close our borders," said Cmdr. Jeff Schoep of the Nationalist Socialist Movement. "This needs to be a white country like our forefathers founded it."

"I've heard more ignorant remarks, like, 'You're stupid. Go back to Mexico.' More than any actual substance," said counter-protestor Tim Carter.

"Everything about Nazis represents hate and evil," said counter-protestor John Perez.

It lasted about an hour. The officers on hand kept the two sides far apart and only shouts and insults got from one end to the other.

Omaha police said they won't know how much the security operation cost the city until the officers log their hours for the event, and a spokesman said many were working overtime.

Wow. That is all I have to say. I just for one didnt know this was still going on. Didnt know there were people that were this ignorant. I just couldnt believe it when I saw it. There were kids in nazi shirts and shit. It was crazy. They were going on about the immigration and such. Fucking blueberries. They were saying that we should close borders so its a white country like our fore fathers founded it. But they took it from someone else. And were immigrants them selves. They did this protest in front of the Mexican consulate in OMAHA. Its just crazy...

Yeah, its fucked up thats its still going on, seriously. I know its the not the same thing, but back in the 80's, the KKK ran a march in a town in PA near where I live. My dad went and took some pics of it, not because he supported it at all, but just because it was a "happening" that was near our town. I get sorta freaked out when I see those pics to know that shit like that still goes on today.

Ya this is why I didnt know what was going on. Because it was on the local news channels with cops keeping the peace. I guess, I knew that this was still around. But I had just not seen it. It is just sad. But, I guess, some people think they know, but they just dont....

as long as they aren't causing any trouble or trying to brainwash people into belive that shit, than i really dont see whats wrong with them walking around looking like complete jerk offs while people point and laugh. hell i would find it amusing to watch one of these things just to see the Nazis get some much shit for it, i mean hell i bet people were throwing dirty diapers at them and shit....

actually i really dont give a shit, expet i feel bad for the officers having to be there so that no one does anything, its a waste of the tax payers money... the officers should be worrying about crime and helping people not worrying about a whole bunch of fucking douchebags

end rant*

actually it was old fascist stuff...u ppl make a lot of confusion when talking about Nazi, Fascism, and Neo Fascism or Nazism.without debating details those 4 r completely different things

I really don't care. I don't think it's right, but it's their personal right...it's in the Constitution, and it's not against the law...the KKK still has rallies and they have security all around to make sure no one shows up and tries to start trouble, but the KKK and Nazi's are okay here and they don't do anything against the law.

Yeah, I don't care about right to free speech.

They should all be lined up and shot, no questions asked. To hate someone for what they are is ridiculous. It smacks of laziness.

Dude...they aren't doing anything wrong...they aren't hurting someone, it's a lot more toned down since the old things where they hung black people for things. They just talk for awhile...they wear normal street clothes...

I'm sorry does no-one else see the Irony here?

You are hating them for being Nazi, so surely we should shoot you too!
