UFC lightweight star Nate Diaz is known to be deadly on the mat and now he’s got the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt to prove it after being awarded it by his long time coach Cesar Gracie yesterday.
Lots of people in the UFC are black belts, but not all are earned equally, and a black belt awarded by a member of the renowned Gracie family has a lot of more value and prestige than most.
Diaz now joins the likes of his brother Nick Diaz and team-mate Jake Shields who’ve also earned a black belt under Gracie’s tutelage.
During his time in the UFC since winning The Ultimate fighter Season 5, Diaz has put his BJJ skills to good use, with six of his 10 UFC wins coming by way of submission, picking up three ‘Submission Of The Night’ awards in the process.
Next up for Diaz is a lightweight title eliminator with Jim Miller which will headline UFC On FOX 3 in May.
