LOS ANGELES -- Students at Dorsey High are mourning the loss of a classmate who died in a tragic accident right in front of the school.
Taylor Griffin Galloway had just arrived at school when she was struck by her own mother's vehicle.
It happened around 7:40 a.m. Thursday on Farmdale Avenue.
According to police, Taylor got out of her mother's car and then stepped in front of the vehicle as she prepared to cross the street.
At the same time, her mother was looking over her should at on-coming traffic and pulled forward, hitting Taylor, LAPD Det. Sandra Smith told KTLA.
The teenager was taken to the hospital where she died of her injuries.
School officials say Taylor was a remarkable student and had just been awarded a $30,000 scholarship to Howard University.
